Re: Russell, Lord of the Shîthouses

Looking forward to him coming to Bath, though can’t make up my mind if he’s going to be one of those players who puts his feet up in the physio’s room and we’ll barely see him (but somehow makes it out to every p!ss up and is fit for every international) or if he’s going to be a good and committed ...

Re: **OFFICIAL** English Rugby Thread

Ben Spencer should have replaced Youngs full time years ago. It’s a mystery why not. Jones had that weird thing about only having two 9s in-camp (almost always Youngs and Care/Heinz). Spencer didn’t look to have a particularly rounded game until he went to Bath (looked like Wigglesworth mk 2 at Sar...

Re: **OFFICIAL** English Rugby Thread

A top-class international 9 should be able to do both and be able to judge when to snipe/attract the defence by going themselves and when to keep the tempo by clearing rucks quickly, not - an accurate and quick pass is a non-negotiable for a top international 9 and Youngs didn’t have that. He also s...

Re: **OFFICIAL** English Rugby Thread

To be fair he didn’t have a lot of competition. Care served up a whole lot of dross during his England career and Robson was perpetually injured. When Willie Heinz is the next cab off the rank you know you have depth issues, and I say that as a Gloucester fan. Who were the other contemporaries? Wig...

Re: **OFFICIAL** English Rugby Thread

It’s a bit of a reflection on England’s poor production line of scrum-halves that he is our cap holder - wouldn’t say he’s been the premier 9 in the 6 nations (or even the home nations) at any point in his career. Has had some excellent games, but there’s no part of his game that has been consistent...

Re: **OFFICIAL** English Rugby Thread

Chessum and Ludlum played really well I thought. Genge was his usual good self. Bothwick has to grasp the nettle now with 10 12, we can't continue with this. Thought Smith playing second receiver led to most of our best work in attack and we don’t really have any other 12s who can fill-in at 10. So...

As long as they start with a win to build from that will do, frankly!

Particularly given our atrocious record against Scotland in recent times - they’ve been a real blind spot for us.

I’m hoping a hallmark of the Borthwick era will be set piece and breakdown accuracy and smarts from the forwards, without bleeding stupid penalties for offsides, not rolling away, off-feet when the ball is lost etc. Hopefully the coaches have had enough time with the players to have an impact and we...

Is something up with J Davies and Ringrose? Can’t believe neither of them made it. Daly was an absolute horror show in the 6N - very very lucky - maybe Gats backs him as a wing, which tbf he can actually play unlike full back, and has fond memories of him nailing 60m kicks against NZ last time. Will be interested to see how Stuart and Genge go as starters; can’t recall either of them starting a 6N match before (unless Genge got a start against Italy at some point?) - starting is quite a different proposition for a prop at this level. Burns over the try line against a French side in nthcsbh is the best one ever. Its better than the second placed London Irish Swan dive one. I still cringe at that one. England have a real problem with knowing when to kick or pass. We made that game so much harder because of our glaring inability to play what's in front of us. France didn’t exactly blow Scotland away, either, so who knows with them. Their halfbacks and defence are both top drawer and Vakatawa will always be a threat, but their scrum is a weakness (almost unheard of for a French team!) and if we bring our best kick chasing game I’m not convinced their back...
