The problem was items of small value regularly going 'missing' from Garda storage at stations; and that fact just as regularly being overlooked. When you then instigate a policy of zero tolerance, in addition to the egregious cases like the cannabis, you are likely to find cases such as the much di...

Can't be much worse than Bryn who I hope goes with him. Funny that this happened with Petrie claiming not long ago that he wasn't for going. Re: Irish Courts: U.K. not a safe country
To be fair, that's a little bit pathetic on your part... Deep down you know 2.5% of something thing does not constitute 'a lot' of it... I'd just take the loss and move on. If two million votes were cast 2.5% is 50000 people backing the RA That sounds like a lot of people to me Winnie, what percent...

They got 2.5% of the vote nationwide. So a lot of ROI voters backed the cause Thanks  To be fair, that's a little bit pathetic on your part... Such stereotypical hyperbole from a bloke who should know better. Completely untrue of course: "In the election that preceded the Good Friday Agreement, (Fianna Fail & Fine Gael) between them the two took 131 of the 166 Dáil seats. Sinn Féin — the political arm of the Irish Republican Army — secure...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Had a thought there yesterday. What are the bloody odds we draw Australia in the next RWC either in the pool stages or the q/f and Joe manages to stuff up our RWC chances for the third time in a row. Unless he is a magician or we fall off a cliff there is no way we should be losing to Australia Ffs...

Re: Irish Courts: U.K. not a safe country
There was a case Irish Govt took to the ECHR claiming that the detention and interrogation practices in NI breached three convention articles. In its ruling the ECHR specifically said the UK was not using torture (though it was using 'inhuman and degrading' techniques in some specific cases in NI w...

Re: Irish unity....?
Thing is, if you were designing a new flag for a united Ireland now you'd probably want something green to represent nationalism, something orange to represent unionism and maybe something white in between to symbolise the hope for peace between the two... Unfortunately the tricolour has been adorn...

[quote="ChipSpike " post_id=7804021 time=1711214164 user_id=508133 To be clear, that's view of the current UK government. Could change with Labour coming in, but I doubt it. From a Unionist perspective it would make sense to have a referendum now. It won't pass and it can be parked for a few years ...

Re: Irish unity....?
Something like this. When the Scottish referendum was first agreed support for independence was in the 20s. By the time they voted on it, it was up to 45%. It wasn't enough for Scotland, but a similar swing in NI would probably set the wheels in motion for an almost inevitable reunification further...
