Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Mugnificent performance by the Ospreys against big money Leinster. The ref has been the difference so far. We're game against an admittedly average Leinster (although tbf, it's not as if we are going gangbusters ourselves). Leinster obviously have a much higher ceiling on their potential performanc...

Remarkable that for a team that doesn't seem to have won a single contact, the Dragons are in the lead. As is often the case, it just feels like we're waiting about for the dam to burst...but it's decent enough so far.

Re: The best new and returning TV series of 2024?
Recently finished 3 Body Problem, and I was a bit disappointed with it. I'd been led to believe it was some serious hard Sci-fi, and it definitely started that way...but then became a bit schlocky, with nonsensical and outlandish plot points. Currently very much enjoying the second season of Foundat...

Crocodile roll gone. Bloody good, absolutely hate that. I'm a keen student of the law of unintended consequences, and I can't help but feel that banning the croc roll will directly impact their stated aim to "reduce the amount of kick tennis in the game." It has been shown time and again that if yo...

Joe Hawkins set to leave Exeter, a disastrous career move if true Depends on where to. If it's some no name French D2 or Japanese team, then yes, that would be bad. If its just to another English prem team, then isn't it just more of the same. Given that he was on a multi-year contract, you have to...

Re: What makes the current Ireland squad so good?
All jokes aside, Ireland wouldn't be the force they have become without the specific abilities of JGP, Aki and Lowe (Lowe's ability to relieve pressure with 50 to 70m long kicks is incredibly underrated in particular). These are the 'value added' players (alongside Sexton) that have elevated the tea...

Bit of an odd one that. I thought he was a lot better than 'being offloaded to the Dragons' level.
Dragons will have a tasty backrow next year of Lewis-Hughes, Basham and Wainwright.

Pretty much. I have a national role within my organisation, so even though there is a local office, I have no direct work with anyone in the office. Although I am nominally supposed to go in a certain amount, my boss, who is the thick end of 1000km away from me, doesn't seem to give a shit. As such,...

The fact that average players for our regional teams are effectively French D2 level players will never not be depressing...not least because it once again shows that the French D2 teama can outbid us for that level of player. I agree with the sentiment that you you need the Lane's of the works to g...

I do believe there is a fair amount of survivorship bias with these sorts of stories. For every Kwagga or Savea, there will be thousands of similar sized players who don't make it. You have to be extremely gifted to make it to International Rugby if you are 'small'.

Re: What are the bored thoughts on the coming A.I. revolution?
Very good use of AI. I've been saying for a while now that we surely must be at a stage where we even without AI we should be able to insert chips in balls/boots, alongside multiple camera angles, which then could be used to judge things like offsides and forward passes with mm accuracy...so with A...

Given a few / several cameras at various angles, and with decent computing power, do you think the most recent versions of AI could ref a rugby match to people's (general) satisfaction and in real-time? Genuine question, thought of it while perusing the thread on the fanciful law changes put forth ...

Hard to know what, to make of that performance. On paper, that Sharks team had a lot of quality, and so for the Scarlets to get within winning distance of them looks like a half decent effort. The effort looks a lot better as well when you consider that they ultimately lost just because of the scrum...

You can't help but be despondent when you realise that had Cardiff and Ospreys had marginally (and would only have to be marginally) better squad, the Ospreys would have been a solid Top 4 team and practically assured themselves of a finishing in the Top 8 by now ...and Cardiff would have been heavi...

Just looking at the table, Cardiff now have 11 BP from 14 games but only 3 wins. They've also had a draw. Their PD is only marginally negative. Must be hard to keep on getting the wrong side of close matches but equally it's good to see they've been competitive in nearly every game. Hopefully they ...

Hard agree. Our prop stocks haven't been this low in as long as I can recall. The hookers aren't great, but they aren't our biggest issue. Our locks make me sad. Is this quin's game typical of URC sides? Glasgae don't appear to be able to do anything but give penalties away at every possible opportunity. He is, by some considerable distance, the best flyhalf playing in Wales at the moment...and that is either a testemant to his outstanding abilities, or a dire indictment of the lack of quality fly halves in Wales at the moment*
