Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
I'm sure everyone here was a paragon of virtue and sensibility when they were 18. It says he was living in the Cratloe student village which is an absolute hellhole and I can just imagine the cast of characters that would be floating around there. The most depressing thing about the story today isn...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Conan is a tremendous player but struggled to get into this game. There are plenty guys who can play well where he's best, carrying on wings but we needed someone to punch holes in the middle and Doris struggled in that area, he runs too upright for a monster pack like France. Hope Coombes gets a ru...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Won't happen but I would love to see Coombes on bench against France to counteract their power bench. Pack would be quite light if POM comes on early. Could always shift Beirne to 6 but think it's a risk. Starting team from last week and a bench of : Healy, Sheehan, Bealham, Hendo, , Coombes, Murray...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
That's only with my Ireland hat on though. With my Munster hat on I'd be telling Farrell to feck off and that Carberry is 3rd choice behind Healy and Crowley. I'd love to still have faith in him, because there's a magic player in there. But I just don't believe he'll ever be consistently fit enough...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
I think Gibson-Park deserves a little slack. Anyone who's played 9 knows today's conditions (slick, spitting rain and gusty winds) are the worst to play in. In the first half I thought he was trying to hard to do everything at a hundred miles an hour and picked a few wrong options. If he slowed dow...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Very excited by the Munster team. If tight 5 can get parity I think this team will do very well.
Delighted that Hodnett is back, I wouldn't be surprised if this is a breakout performance and leaves JvG with selection dilemma for anytime he is fit.

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Huge fan of Doris and the only thing that will hold him back is his availability. Reminds me a lot of Richard Hill in his pomp, an incredible knack of being in right place at right time and transparently good decision making at all times. Big rangy farmer strength as well.

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
A lot of talk about lack of depth, but there are quality players there. Killer, Sheehan, Baird, Ahern, Dillane, Beirne, Coombes, Leavy, Timoney, Deegan, Casey, Doak, Henshaw, Baloucoune, Hansen, Zebo, Earls all in reserve to that starting side today, and all well able to contribute. 3 and 10 are ob...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Am I the only one who has been a bit unimpressed by Doris, relative to his hype? He's clearly a decent player but I don't think he's close to Conan in terms of performance levels and consistency. Albeit injuries have played a huge part. Seems to be in the Ryan/Ringrose camp of waiting for the top l...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Coombes doesn't seem to have quite the same fast twitch power as Fez, more like a high torque diesel engine. Looks quite a bit more robust though (touch wood) and his hands (passing and offloading) combine well with his power and the forward pod set up. A mix and match of himself, Doris, Conan, VdF ...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
It's not terminal yet but very worrying, we still have the pieces to field a strong team but I'm not sure we have an understood gameplan and approach and I couldn't tell you now who'll play 10 for us when knock out rugby starts. JvG is probably hoping JC finds form in the Ireland camp but hope to fu...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
If it was a one off play you'd be right, Scarlets hung back and didn't have line speed. Taken in context of an almost identical position led to a successful 50/22 kick from Healy creating a try 10 minutes before it's a little less feckless from Scarlets and more setting up to cover a long kick, whic...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
:) Ahern has incredible agility for such a big man. He gets quite low in defence and carries very much like a back rather than a 6'9 lock. Very exciting player and hope he'll get plenty of gametime in next few weeks. I think he’ll be a better lock forward than Baird. Given how attritional pro Rugby...

Can we official start the Ahern hype train? Choo choo... It's going to be hard to get used to Munster not being shit, but on today's performance they have a lot more to be excited by than Leinster. Think we still need to find a bit more dynamism in front row to compete against the best of best. Eve...

Forgot to mention Jack O'Donoghue who is just a really top rugby player. Very rounded, probably not getting into starting team for Munster but can slot in anywhere and will always give a 7.5+ performance.

Well done Munster, a lot of impressive stuff there from younger players and lesser lights  Absolutely. Very enjoyable game and nice to see 18 academy lads in the 23. Got a bit loose at end and left a few tries behind but more importantly didn't let up defensively eben when bench emptied. H...

Hopefully it's something minor for Snyman, these injuries are very common after long term injuries. He was due out for November anyway if he was fully fit.
This is great stuff from Munster, still going strong and looking to put a hurt on them.

I thought we could get a result but this performance has been way beyond what I expected. Going really well and even when a bad bounce gives the Scarlets a try against run of play they go back and score next. Could still lose it mind given the firepower Scarlets have out wide but a really encouragin...

Wouldn't be throwing Carbery into the Findus mixed meat tank just yet, his form in first two games is certainly worrying but that was an atrociously selected midfield which demanded ball carriers be thrown at it. Daly has played centre but not at the highest level if I recall right. Back 3 options congested so if a move for Coombes or Daly to 13 worked I'd be all for it. JOS I'm not sold on but Kendellan looks like hell be a fine player. Hodnett not far off either.
Goggin had a poor game today. They've been trying Liam Coombes at 13 in preseason, might be worth a run next week if Farrell is still out.
