Re: Listen to your body
62 caveat I'm a smoker and drinker. I had just turned 70, have never smoked, and took my last drink 20 years ago. I am definitely not overweight, do regular exercise, eat healthily, have a low-stress diet, my bp is a wee bit high but not alarmingly so, the same as my cholesterol levels. It seems th...

Re: Listen to your body
Take care, Kiwias. Wishing you a quick and full recovery. Was over your way recently on a school trip to the Tottori sand dunes etc. お大事に! When were you here, mate? Hmmm… Let me see now, it must have been around March 13-15, I think. I was well aware I was in Kiwias country, but had chaperoning obl...

Update I am at the end of my “do sfa” rest period at home and am doing my morning walk every day, now to be joined with a session on the exercise bike that arrived today. BP has definitely stabilized at a good level and my pulse is also steady. So far, so good. That’s great to hear Kiwias Glad you ...

Re: Listen to your body
Glad to read that you are with us Kiwas. Cannot overemphasise how important it is to listen to your own body and to monitor your health. I may well be OTT but I monitor my physical wellbeing very closely. The outward signs I keep a close eye on. I monitor my weight, waist size, cardio fitness. I ex...

Re: Listen to your body
As I mentioned in a previous post, weird how different surgeons, hospitals, countries approach this as I was not told to do sfa walk dogs straight away (that was extent of what was allowed) then work it up. Poor explanation as the doctor encouraged me to walk for 15~20mins a day and do 15mins on th...

1.5 years ago now. He had a stent put in, but I guess he builds up blockages easily so will likely need more as he grows older and other tubes block up. I don't know if its mental or physical, but he doesn't push himself anymore. Stopped running etc. I think he just goes for walks/gyms it. One of m...

My friend had a heart attack aged 33. Was fit, ran half marathons etc, not overweight at all. Just bad genetics. Turns out his grandfathers on both sides died in their 40s. His dad is fine, but his uncle died in his 40s too. All of heart attacks. He thought staying fit could fight it off, but nope....

A fresh faced 40. Way to start the decade. Very quickly become experts in our chosen field, though you'd always rather pass on the practical. That makes me feel better as I had just turned 70 a couple of weeks before my surgery. 40 is very young for this but you are now set for a decent long and he...

Re: Listen to your body
I 100% can confirm the importance of listening to your body. Going to the Doctor with what I would have described as persistent but mild to moderate discomfort /tension in the chest undoubtedly saved my life. However I must point out that stents are common as muck and barely heart surgery at all. I...

They told me to go light for 1st couple weeks. But I basically started walking straight away. Interestingly, for some weird reason, I went off caffeine instantly and anything with caffeine in it. I’ll take that for the first match of the season with all the youngsters getting a good run and the old buggers showing they can still contribute. BP loss away is not too bad.
