Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Munster are having the season they needed to have a few years ago. No qf/sf to mask over mediocrity and protect some average staff, on and off the pitch. The big positive is what is coming through the academy. Pity we can't find props and centres. The coaching team is moving the organisation out of ...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
On the size issue, its worth noting that as the game went on it became less relevant. The more athletic players lasted the game better, whereas the big french lads who started were all gone after 50 mins or so. In boxing parlance you can take you take their punches but tire them out. Our players are...

Time is catching up with him, and he is not tops anymore but he is not nearly as far away as the board would have you believe. The best part is that the contenders are young. He is a handy guy for the likes of Casey and Doak to train with-they are passing him in selection terms but that doesnt mean ...

Coombes hands are excellent, and killer at 28 is playing v well, and imo should be ahesd of healy at this stage. If we are really stuck at Lh bring Cronin back from france!! Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
A big difference for me was what looked like a change in attitude to risky plays. For all the good he did in the last year or two the willingness to try a 50 50 pass or off load, or a solo run was knocked out of the squad by Joe S. It looked to me like that changed on Saturday. If it's a permanent c...

POC man of the series for the way he delivered the pack. Furlong is key. Players allowed to make mistakes so therefore skills emerge. Beirne, Henderson,Ryan and Furlong are the basis of a very good pack. Anyone coaching backs should have a look at Earl's today. Not as fast as he was but his workrate...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
With Stander retiring, and the likely departure of TOD and Cloete in 2022, which of the Leinster backrows are going to make their way south? Likely to be a 7 given the backlog at Leinster. Scott Penny probably makes the most sense? Penny has 25 senior caps at 21 years old but there is a "backlog" a...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
England's line-out is not their strength, so we should be ok there. Its a talented 4_8 but very underpowered. CJ switched to 6 to stop vanipola (sp). Farrell an co must be banking on England continuing the running game they used against France.

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
The centres tried hard but there is nothing smooth about their passing or putting players into space. Relying on individual breaks. Wont work against defenses. Forwards OK to good, but need more power at 7. No criticism of vdef efforts. A few of the newer guys discovering playing international is ve...

The winners in this series could well be the guys who weren't there. The covid closed shop squad meant that the provinces could give developing players a good run. Quinlan was being an old mate. It was pretty boring listening to him tbh. It's why I don't like listening to recent-ish pros most of the time, they're too nice. Yeah, at least Liam Toland and Keith Wood had a half useful discussion about changing playing style. Quinlan kept saying he wanted change,...

Do we have the players just now that could beat that english team? We have good forwards, but their collective power is just not enough. Herring is doing well, but at the very top level isn't powerful enough. Kelleher I think will get there, but will take a year for so to get to the v top power requ...

Stockdale v JJ and Larmour running at Daly should be good crack. Just hope our forwards can get hold of the ball against that huge English pack. Won't Stockdale be on Ireland's left wing vs May? Yes. Stockdale's defensive short-comings could be exposed. Meanwhile Conway is on fire over on the right...
