Re: Teaching rugby to kids
Turk, I coach at school and also own a little business (which I've never admitted on here before) coaching micro rugby. Kids do honeypot. It's almost impossible to stop them because of the way the game works at a young age. My own son, who is 8, dutifully puts himself on the wing as the coach says t...

Re: Most Famous player you played with (or against)
Against: I scrummed against Lood Muller in club matches in the two years after he finished with the Boks. I think David Humphreys was playing for Irish Universities when they toured SA. He was on the roster but I was too busy trying to breath - those guys were fit! With: Mark Andrews was part of my ...

Re: Rugby Skill Progression
I'm convinced a heavy reliance on drills over the past couple of decades, more kids playing organized rather than figuring things out on their own in informal games, and too much coach influence (not to mention better defence) has got us to the current state where the vast number of phases is a one...

Some national bodies have pdfs of what you're looking for 'skills' wise. Try searching using filetype:pdf and combos of words related to assessment, core skills, etc. However, these aren't 'skills' they're techniques... 'Skill' is techniques under pressure in an open environment, and someone who lo...

Rugby Skill Progression
Hello, All I post in the hopes that someone on the board can help. I am trying to set up a sort of progression checklist for the coaches at my place of work so that they can measure how much the players they are coaching have progressed. Before I reinvent the wheel, is someone aware of something lik...

Being a Bok supporter I could probably knock out a top 5 of bitter disappointments.
1. Losing to Japan - this will haunt us forever.
2. Losing to Italy
3. Camp Staaldraadt
4. The Battle of Twickenham
5. Louis Luyt

A year 10 pupil once asked me how to spell GCSE.
I questioned another pupil about the way he had written his name. He insisted he'd spelled it correctly. A week later he told me he had asked his mother and I was right.

A few years ago I received a tax rebate of £1.5k a month before Christmas. A year later, feeling skint, I remarked to my wife that another one would be great.
There was a cheque for £1.3k delivered in the post that day.
I tried again a year later but apparently third time isn't a charm.

Re: Cover versions of songs you like that you also like
This probably doesn't qualify as a cover, but it's a great example of a band doing something different with one of their songs. The Knife - Live - Heartbeats Diego, that is how the original version of the song sounded. Jose Gonzalez made it acoustic and then it was used for advertising (cameras?). ...

I can't remember encountering too many refs who were biased while I was playing. Coaching schoolboy games is another matter. One of my favourite reffing stories was a game that got tasty with occasional flair-ups. The ref stopped us and said that next one was going off. Our captain called us togethe...

The way the SA ref overruled the Argentinian TMO and awarded the Jaguares a try was just the most blatant example of this, followed by ...

It's not modern but it's a chance to snatch some nostalgic glory... In 1990 Natal, who became the Sharks, celebrated their centenary as a union. They had never won the Currie Cup and were recently back in the top flight after two years of relegation. They played the Bulls who, only two weeks earlier...

This is not the exclusive domain of the religious. It's anyone who is so convinced they're right that they dismiss anything contrary to their world view. Anti-vaccination parents are on that spectrum.

Well played, Blues.
At times it seemed like both sides' game plan was to string together something promising before cocking up the finish. Sharks, for example, lost three consecutive attacking lineouts in the last 15 mins.
I felt Jaco Peyper went well.

The performances of the Sunwolves this season puts the loss to Japan last year into context. The Boks were brainless and complacent.
