Re: Stupid laws world rugby have created in recent years
I would not say league is shit, it obviously has its popularity in Aus and NZ. But what annoys me is that we are moving away from what makes rugby, rugby. The waiting around for another scrum is what makes rugby, rugby? 15% of the game is spent forming scrums - is this what makes rugby, rugby? What...

Re: Why have Newcastle been so poor this season?
No money This is the answer. They are spending the least on wages in the Prem by a country mile. They don't attract the talent, and what little they develop tends to go elsewhere for more cash. This is what ringfencing and high salary caps have done to the Prem. We basically have three cohorts of c...

No money, Diamond has i als indicated they will go down to a 34 man squad next season which wont help. Bath and Sarries are also nicking their promising youngsters. Survival is questionable. That would be a shame. Newcastle and Worcester were always my 2 favourite teams. Surely 10 is the minimum nu...

Why have Newcastle been so poor this season?
I mainly follow the URC, I looked at the Premiership table for the first time in ages and noticed that Newcastle are rooted to the bottom, played 13, lost 13. 4 points. There is a bigger gap (22 points) between Newcastle and 9th placed Gloucester, than there is between Gloucester and leaders Northam...

Re: Stupid laws world rugby have created in recent years
What is definitely weird is that some people claim to enjoy rugby, but don't like scrums, mauls or lineouts..... Or kicking the ball. I like scrums but don’t think we need any more of them. It’s good when the players aren’t just standing around for half the game. It is the game. This 100%

What’s Warburton’s opinion over that? Edit - actually an annual match between the last of 6N and the first of the REC is a great idea Agreed but the 6N must remain a closed shop. Any Union that was relegated would quickly be bankrupted Why do thick people keep talking about relegation? The unions o...

Re: Proposed Rugby Law Changes
Well, we had a word with tje lads at WR and said we don’t like scrums and mauls so we’ll change the rules so we can have a mark from the kick off… Nonsense. Instead, we told them we were bored today and wanted to see the ‘memories of 2003’ crowd having a wee meltdown, so let’s tinker with so...

Re: Proposed Rugby Law Changes
If you don’t like scrums and mauls and rucks, then there is Rugby League. 5 runs and a kick repeated until everyone dies of boredom or falls about laughing at all the ground shagging.

Re: Proposed Rugby Law Changes
Eh? If the heavier pack invariably bullied the lighter one in the scrum, scrums would be even less of a contest for the ball than they are right now. But the fact is, better technique and greater mastery of the mechanics of scrummaging are more reliable determinants of success than size. The Boks d...

Re: Proposed Rugby Law Changes
Ok Stronger packs start a scrum with the aim of getting a penalty awarded against their opposition, giving their kicker the opportunity for 3 points and increasing their teams chance of winning the match. Re: Proposed Rugby Law Changes
Clearly teams with a stronger pack attempt to win a penalty, it easier than scoring a try. The point stands. You don't 'win' penalties. They are awarded against the opposition for transgression. Ok Stronger packs start a scrum with the aim of getting a penalty awarded against their opposition, givi...

Re: Proposed Rugby Law Changes
If WR want to improve the scrums IMO they should get rid of the current pat-a-cake nonsense and have the front rows fold together first before the rest of the pack bind on with no pre-bind to the front row. You then start with a far more stable base as you have removed the hit/momentum advantage co...

Re: Proposed Rugby Law Changes
It prevents you from using a strength, and leads to a tap and go against an organised defence rather than the great attacking opportunity that is the scrum I am opposed to the law changes except from “DuPonts law”. Re: Proposed Rugby Law Changes
Never thought I'd say this, but I'm actually in favour of all of these. The free-kick at scrum without a reset we definitely be to the detriment of the Boks, but I think it will be better in for the game in the long run. I just hope we can figure out a way to weaponse the free-kick a bit better. Ec...

Get rid of the jackals... back to good old rucking... no need for croc rolls then... proper competition at the breakdown without the lolly scramble... But didn't players start rolling player off rucks because they are more likely to get carded for clearing out using the shoulder and it makes contact with the head.
