Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
How mobile is Coombes, I have watched him a couple of times, He is immensely strong especially close to the line with incredible leg drive but doesn't look that mobile in the open, he missed a bad tackle in lead up to 1st try. Is he quick, is he mobile enough for the very top level? He's pretty fas...

While yes Munster did put them away very comfortably I wouldn't be reading too much into it, they are not a good side, similar as to how Ulster's wins over Quins are no indication that we are not shot. A match against a full strength Leinster would be a much better indication of where Munster are n...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Just had a chance to watch the Munster and Leinster games on YouTube, and was very impressed with both. My first thought on the Munster game was wtf were Leicester’s issues with the ref. If anything I thought he was fairly lenient, and his (correct) carding of Ryan was in marked contrast to his tre...

Seems to me it's bloody difficult to legally and safely clean out these days. Thought it was funny BT Sports showed footage of the ref's cam as he walked off the pitch at half-time. Welford Rd is a bit of an oddity as you walk up the terrace (as opposed to through a vomitorium / under the terrace) to get to the changing rooms, so the ref and probably players are a bit more ex...

Re: NTHCSBH: Leicester v Munster, Sun Dec 17th, 5:30pm
The most encouraging thing about last weekend's game for me, was everyone seemed to know exactly what they were doing! Munster really rely on a very structured game, when we try to play a looser, more off-the-cuff game it all starts to fall apart. Cloete was obviously good, but POM had his best game...

Thought Bath were very good vs Toulon, hard to see them being beaten at home with their defence. Ulster and Ospreys could build on impressive games, or could immediately revert back to being cack. Exeter are good enough to have a real go at Leinster. La Rochelle leak too many tries, so Wasps have a ...

If someone got injured because of your tackle technique sure ...which could be another way of saying "if someone gets injured in tackling, it's bad technique. If it's bad technique, it's a card." :) In 'head-on' (* poor choice of words) tackles like that where the tackle is around chest-height, you...

I love Dallaglio's comments about the high tackle on Kleyn as he stretched to try and score: ...just a hint of an arm around his neck as well, but on that occasion it was in the action of scoring, so the referee let it go... ??????????? They really need to dump the 'TMO question'. They should have a look, go through the angles for the ref, be a second pair of eyes to spot anything the ref might have missed, then ref makes the final call with a bit more info available. None of this 'if he asks one question it's one decision, but if ...

Ref probably got to the right decision but he did it arseways, he doesn't know the laws. You don't need an Ospreys player to form a ruck there as per the amendments this summer. Kick long, opposition kick to touch and you can start the game with a lineout on the half way line. Seems like a win to me. Funny how rugby is built all around patterns. Anything outside the norm (bounce pass, or not competing at the ruck Italy '17 style) and the opposition start making mistakes. T...

In short Ireland needs to bid when there isn't strong competitor bid in Europe (which means France or England) and they'll likely get it. So... France gets 2023. Southern Hemisphere presumably in 2027, though the US wants it again. If the US gets it, it's definitely SH in 2031. England will want it...

It is a bit amusing how inconsistently the penalty try law is applied. Knocking the ball out of play, knock-on in the redzone (automatically assumed to be deliberate) : cast-iron slam dunk penalty try.
Offside or holding onto the ball when isolated on your own try line. Never given.
