Re: Crusaders vs Hurricanes: MATCH THREAD: Sun March 7
While the Canes have often been slow starters to the super season, last weekend was very disappointing with ill-discipline and dumb errors costing points. PUJ has to be back in the lineup after his standout performance against the Crusaders midfield in last year's fixture. Everyone stood up in that ...

SR NZ Team of the Season
This is my super rugby form team of the season. A few tough choices 15. Will Jordan 14. Sevu Reece 13. Peter Umaga-Jensen 12. Jack Goodhue 11. Mark Telea 10. Richie Mo’unga 9. Aaron Smith 8. Hoskins Sotutu 7. Duplessis Kirifi 6. Shannon Frizell 5. Pari Pari Parkinson 4. Patrick Tuipolotu 3. Ofa Tu’u...

Re: Super Rugby Aotearoa 'Team of the Week' Rd 9
Dillon Hunt had a blinder today. Parkinson was impressive again too. Can’t argue with that team except I’d have Aaron Smith over TJ - he was the catalyst for the clan’s first half ascendancy

Re: Advice from some fellow kiwis
The coromandel would be a great place to move back to except it mightn’t meet your footy club requirements. They are there but, Thames aside, they are fairly small. A place like matamata would be ideal as you’re only an hour or so from the coromandel and nicely placed between Hamilton and Tauranga. ...

You could throw Milner Skudder in too although I’m not sure if he’s injured or just isn’t getting picked.
Teariki Ben-Nicholas has to be kicking himself for going to the number 8-less landers only for Mikaele Tu’u to have a stellar season. I wonder if the Crusaders ever gave him a ring.

Re: Hurricanes v Chiefs
Tbh, they've looked very ordinary with him as well. The Chiefs attack has been dyfunctional all season. They looked their best when they focused on the rolling maul against the Highlanders earlier in the season, but seemed to lose interest in the rolling maul not long afterward. I agree. Cruden see...

Re: Hurricanes v Chiefs
Expect the canes to roll on with their momentum from the Crusaders game. The chiefs backline has looked ordinary without cruden and I can’t see why tonight’s game will be any different. I’ll be keeping an eye on the loosehead battle and the double-barrel centre match up. Scrum dominance will be impo...

Re: Crusaders vs Hurricanes: MATCH THREAD: Sat 25th July
What a game. For me the whole Canes team stepped up - one of the best games from Blackwell and Scrafton that I've seen. JGB distributed nicely and really kept the backline humming. Goosen adds another level that van Wyk doesn't, particularly in his defence. Standout for me though was Umaga-Jensen - ...

Re: Pick your current All Black XXIII
I can see him becoming a Ben Smith type player that can cover wing/fullback and, if played on the wing, will complement the other winger who has out and out pace and finishing ability like Reece with his more rounded game

Re: Pick your current All Black XXIII
Has Will Jordan not played his way into a spot? Him and Sotutu are the two standouts that I would expect to debut this year. Ioane hasn't done enough to warrant a starting wing spot in my opinion.

Re: The booing of Beauden Barrett by the Wellington crowd
His move was one of the biggest, most unprecedented moves in super rugby - moving to a competing franchise in the prime of one's career is different to being given the boot or moving at the twilight of their career. If a player shows disloyalty to a team why should that team's crowd not exhibit thei...

Re: Hurricanes v Blues: MATCH THREAD Sat, 18 July
Helluva game, albeit a bit sloppy in the final 20. Laumape really carried with conviction and was staunch on defence. Peter Umaga-Jensen had his best game in a canes jersey - ran some great lines and looked really eager. Kirifi couldn't be kept out the game - would love to see his no. of carries and...

Re: Hurricanes vs Highlanders: MATCH THREAD: Sunday 12th Jul
For the Canes you'd have to leave the starting team pretty well unchanged except for replacing Armstrong due to injury I'd suspect. PUJ played extremely well in only his fifth game - he looked really good in the midfield and provided some go forward as well as link play. Has he played well enough to...

Re: Chiefs vs Hurricanes: MATCH THREAD: Sun 5th July
Whilst this match was won by their defense, the Hurricanes also looked much better in attack. Jackson Garden-Bachop was composed and understated, and his passing game was effective. TJP's passing from the base of the ruck was more accurate than it has been this season . I thought TJ had one of his ...

Re: Rugby Traditions Ruined By Modernising Marketing Cúnts
Strange when you think about it. The music playing after tries and stoppages is universally disliked yet the powers that be persist with doing it. I think the exception to this, at least for me, were home All Blacks tests when classic kiwi music would be played after an All Blacks try a la Slice of...

Re: Chiefs vs Blues: MATCH THREAD: Saturday 20th June
Tom Robinson would also need to be in the discussion as a blindside flanker who can cover lock. He's the kind of hard working and abrasive blindside flanker that is well suited to test rugby. And his lineout work last week was terrific, great option to have if we want to start with Savea and Cane. ...

Re: Hurricanes vs Crusaders: MATCH THREAD: June 21
Surprised the Canes didn't make more widespread changes after that outing last week. Minus the Dane Coles try, the backline didn't seem to function. This is probably one of the worst backlines the Canes have fielded for a big match in a long time. In my opinion the only players who have the capabil...
