Re: URCR14 Bulls vs Munster
Hodnett was his usual brilliant self when he came on. His tackling is phenomenal and I’d always back him to break the first tackle on open play. I think the Achilles injury robbed him of some of his pace / burst which is a pity but he’s still quick

I was very high on Stewart but this is not good. Looks less dynamic as well as the poor lineout stuff?

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Munster Rugby and the IRFU are pleased to confirm that Peter O'Mahony has signed a new one-year contract with the province. So is it a central contract or provincial one? The rumour was a Munster one with assistance from the IRFU. Not sure why it's not just a central one. Maybe it is. Heard from re...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Threadl
On the POM rumour mill - head last year that both he and JOD were sat down and compared their playing stats (tackle numbers, completion, ruck effectiveness etc) with with those of Hodnett (and AK oddly enough, redder incoming) and told in no uncertain terms that their performances for Munster in ter...

Re: Northampton v Munster HEC.
Ah we'll always show up for these ones. Still the Munster 'aura' schtick doing rounds in the media but could be a very long afternoon for us. I think the 'aura' has been running on fumes for some time now. Just looked up the Munster team that beat Northampton 51 - 36 at Franklin Gardens back in 201...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Conor O'Shaughnessy(10) was very good for irish u18s, as was James O'Dwyer(9), Charlie Molony(15), Charlie Meagher(8), Dylan McNeice(4) and Donnacha McGuire(5). Thought COS looked very good in the sct final. Only caught the highlights but saw James O’Leary scored one of his classic burst tries. Mol...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
Didn't realise Ferris was a team-mate of him and on the pitch when it happened. I still remember reading an article on a website (might even have been old style Planet Rugby) and phoning home to my Mum and asking about a young rugby player who had died and finding out he was from the Royal. Team sh...

Re: Ospreys v Munster
Munster escape with the win. The early 3 tries was the difference. Performance wise its another very poor showing with the exception of the defending. I'd take issue with the latter. A more accurate side than Ospreys would have done our defence. That made for depressing viewing. WTF is going on wit...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
I think the Ulster lads are grand for the most part. And completely natural to want some local lads to get picked in what are very tight calls. I personally would have preferred Hendo over Baird and Stockdale over Larmour, or TOT over Juice.

He’s a great size of a young fella. Looked very good. Hard to judge individuals given disparity of the team performances. Rock 10 looked amazing whereas Michaels backline could barely out it through the hands.

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
There was a tonne of ball kicked to him and he actually made relatively few yards off it. I thought he could have benefitted from being much more head down and bring it into contact than he was. Such a frustrating player. He passed as much as he ran and passed more than any other outside back. A co...

Back 3 is a concern for Ireland. Since that first Grandslam at u20 level (Baird, Casey, H Byrne, Penny, Hodnett) there have been very few outstanding talents even at that u2@ level. King and Chay Mullins looked to have physical attributes but haven’t heard much from either. How did King go for Leins...

Talking about 7s going to throw Hodnetts name in the ring too. Munster a best player for last 18 months and outrageous with outrageous work rate and tackle/ruck stats. Dynamic if small carrier. Sub average jackal threat for an open side but has improved Ideally it would be Connors but his injury pro...

Outside of Gleeson and Gavin I’m not sure who’s odds on to make it as a provincial starter level pro out of this batch. BOC would need to iron a LOT of kinks out of his game. Has upside though given size and athleticism. EOC is a really good player but not convinced he’ll progress for some reason (...

WDK and McLaughlin are nice footballers but don’t see the pro level game in them. The sub 10 looked to be very physical in all the games and attacked the line well. O’Connor makes a lot of errors He does, it’s bizarre given how good he was at a game requires a much higher skill level. I was a GAA first rugby player too and most of us have pretty good core skills especially if played a few years in a rugby school. Spoke to someone involved in this set up and co...
