Re: NZ hosting Australia 2024- Cricket series thread

Looks like McDonald is still backing in Smith, McDonald also suggested that Steve Smith looks set for an extended run at the top of the order after labelling criticism of his recent poor output unfair. Smith finished the two-Test series with an average of 12.75, ahead of only Mitchell Starc’s 12.25...

Conspiracy theory - The likes of Elon Musk are pushing that stuff like this should be blamed on DEI, taking focus away from the actual issue, cutting corners to increase profit. Something Tesla also does.

I'm the king of reasonableness so I think I've got it about right when I say it wasn't a particularly sensible thing for Sam Kerr to say, and she should reflect on that when it comes to future interactions with the police, but also how the fudge is this even going to trial?? What with, they aren't exactly flush with cash either and are losing money. And they aren’t that stupid. Gee I dunno. They hired Foster and refuse to do anything that will improve Super Rugby But to be fair, this localised version of Super rugby must be much cheaper to run than the previous iterati...

Re: Is there a pushback against the safety initiatives in Rugby

There’s head contact at every single pick and drive. Would some people want penalties and cards each time? At the moment it’s not considered high-risk, but taking subjectivity out of it (head contact is head contact) would see games end after a few minutes - all the players would have been sent off...

Re: Is there a pushback against the safety initiatives in Rugby

Don’t think I said not wanting reds = don’t think head knocks matter. That was the straw man you created. My point was more that there is a negative impact to the team who received the head knock. Why should there not then be no immediate consequences for the team that caused the issue? I am sure t...

Re: Is there a pushback against the safety initiatives in Rugby

Some games are more important than others. If it's a WC final, are you going to be that upset if you miss 2/3/4 months if you're able to play over the line to help your team win? Trying to find different ways to change behaviour that allows unintended consequences doesn't usually work out. I find i...

Re: Is there a pushback against the safety initiatives in Rugby

Not sure I agree. I like the idea that we dont have players suffering brain damage later in life. And for that we need to remove incidence of head knocks, accidental or deliberate. That means that the head becomes off limit and the penalties mean player actions change. For example, on the weekend w...

Re: Is there a pushback against the safety initiatives in Rugby

So we don’t have cards then? I’m not against it but that is the solution to your comment. Rugby has laws. If you break the law and it reaches a certain threshold you get a red. If it happens in the first minute the blame sits with the player who did it. If you think it’s unfair on the viewing publi...

Re: Is there a pushback against the safety initiatives in Rugby

Incidentally the Canes won on the weekend with 14 players for the last 1/3 of a game. Is it fair to the fans if Jordan Petaia is taken from the ground because another player used a poor tackle technique? It was accidental but Petaia is gone and he is a star of the game. Sorry but I don't think that...

Then we need an overhaul of the whole system and go down the AFL path an get rid of cards all together then? Re: Is there a pushback against the safety initiatives in Rugby

I think that Rugby is "throwing out the baby with the bathwater". The current laws are just another reason why I don't go (unless beer/cabal is involved). Why pay good money for a game that may be ruined by a decision regarding an accidental collision after 1 minute? By all means punish the player ...

Feeling a lot better about things compared to a few months ago.

I don't even care if we lose most of our games this year, as long as we are building a decent squad and improving week on week.

Targeting hitting out straps for the Lions next year seems like a good idea to me.
