Gloucester sending their 2nds/Academy to Sarries tomorrow. Understandable given they’ve nothing to play for bar the Challenge Cup semi but I’d be annoyed if I was a Quins, Bath or Exe fan.

It’s only really Bath with Du Toit and Schoeman but even then they’ve got Obano and Stuart who get a lot of game time. When you actually look around there is a smattering of foreigners but the vast majority of props are epq, it’s just that a lot of them aren’t international quality.

Re: **OFFICIAL** English Rugby Thread
Scabnose doesn't select the England A side and nor does Baxter. I don't rate Painter hugely, but he did a job on the Bath scrum this weekend and he's comfortably ahead of the Kiwi at Exeter. I’m pretty sure Borthwick did pick the A team. Skivington talked about it at the time. Well blow me down, yo...

Re: **OFFICIAL** English Rugby Thread
That's not true at all. He's been in 19 matchday squads this season and only started 6 times, with Painter starting the other 13 games. He was benched for the only two Heiny Cup games he was involved in and the Prem Cup semi. Same story last season - he only started 6 times and was a sub 17 times, ...

He's a strong slippery winger. Clearly a good player but I'm not at all convinced he should be there ahead of several others. But I guess not being English is now the best way to get a chance for England. To be fair to him he’s done everything asked of him so far and is only going to get better. He...

Re: Stupid laws world rugby have created in recent years
I’ve no issue with the goal line drop out, I think it’s been a good move. One thing that really p*sses me off though is watching props drive straight into the side of a maul at a lineout and cling on for dear life while working their way onto the opposing side “legally”. If you are on the opposite s...

Mercer may, or may not, thrive at international level - but he's certainly done enough at Domestic level that you'd really want to find out - and do it fairly soon. At the moment we're just an injury away from not knowing who our number 8 will be. Based on six nations it’s Dombrandt… If that’s not ...

Look at the stats, and they tell the story of the player I watched in the Top14. He's doing most of his carrying in later phases, wider out, or on transition plays. He plays a very different game to Earl. This really isn't a controversial take. If Mercer came into the England 8 jersey, Earl would l...

Re: **OFFICIAL** English Rugby Thread
It's not about what they are. It's about what they are not which they have in common. They aren't the kind of player who smashes the ball into contact in midfield, and pops back to their feet ready to do it again two phases later. This is why Earl has been so successful at 8 for England - his engin...

He would have exactly the same impact as Dommers has. England should be focusing efforts on developing CCS or Barbeary as a barnstorming 8. They are not the same player. Dombrandt can be good in the wider channels if he’s given a platform but that’s where the similarities end. It's not about what t...
