Re: The Australian Politics Thread

Sky News commentators are saying that QLDers are enraged about the border closures. This isn't what I am seeing or hearing on the ground. My electorate is an LNP heartland and I'm yet to meet someone who wanted the borders opened earluer. I'd be interested to hear what other QLD based bordies think...

Re: The Australian Politics Thread

It is the QLD election today. This election was always going to be very close, and the impact of the pandemic is still uncertain. Every major newspaper in the state is owned by News Ltd and they have all waged war on Premier Palaszczuk over the last months and years. And Clive Palmer has spent twice...

I've been watching a fair bit of CNN lately, as I do every 4 years at this time of the US electoral cycle. Just now they had three American experts talking up the 'Victoria State' strategy for dealing with covid-19 and saying that American states need to use this as a model for success.

I was going to say with summer approaching the virus is gone in Victoria. So 7 cases today but... 6 of those cases come from known outbreaks and if our contact tracing is where it should be then should not be an issue. It's not how 'hard' the lockdown is, it's how early the restrictions are enacted. Many countries went hard, but far too late and the virus was already widely spread throughout the populace.
