Are you arguing with me for the sake of it? You've already agreed it was a legal tackle

Re: Finau tackle on Edmed.
I have coached kids to tackle for years. A number of these kids are now playing professionally in the NRL and QLD Cup. The cue was always shoulder first and then wrap the arms. Apparently, according to sunnybanana, I was teaching them an illegal technique

Re: Finau tackle on Edmed.
I'd pick Savea and Finau in our loose forward mix and would pick Savea at 7. I haven't made up my mind about number 8. I haven't seen enough of Sotutu to fairly assess his ability, but I do like what I've seen so far from Bradyen Iose. Sotutu is a Rolls Royce. Given the right coaching, I think he w...

Re: Finau tackle on Edmed.
I saw the game in real time, and I thought the tackle was borderline but not deserving of a card. If I was one of the Chiefs' coaches, I'll be having a quiet word with him about technique and improving the arm wrap action. It wasn't even penalised. He's completed 4 tackles like that in recent games...

Re: Finau tackle on Edmed.
Whilst I think it's legal, in the modern game that's an extremely risky tackle to attempt. Some referees will card that on suspicion. And if you're a second late, or an inch higher, you're going to be in serious trouble. The days of tackling to hurt people are over.

Re: Finau tackle on Edmed.
A shoulder charge requires the arm to be tucked. This was a tackle.sunnybanana wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2024 1:27 amAli's Choice wrote: ↑Sat Apr 27, 2024 1:24 am You're allowed to tackle shoulder first as long as the arms wrap. Arms first would be an arm-tackle.
Really? You think a shoulder charge is fine as long as it’s followed by a wrap? What would be the point of that?

Agreed. He regressed as a player under Foster. He went from being a starting midfielder to a fringe squad member. The fact that Foster took delight in alternating him between 12 and 13 wouldn't have helped. Well unfortunately he's not the only player that regressed in the Foster era. Yep, as a team...

Rieko has definitely improved in that regard though.. just like defensively he has matured with age. Those first two tries against Ireland in the World Cup were from Rieko passes. We'll see though. If Razor doesn't pick him, then we know he doesn't rate him. But who would be better? The alternates ...

Re: All Blacks 2024
If we look at the game stats from last week for the Blues 46 - 7 win over the third placed Brumbies Ioane's attack stats look ok in terms of distribution. 10 Carries 9 Passes 1 Offload Pretty good ratio. The Blues also had 71% possession against the Brumbies which could suggest Ioane is passing and...

Re: All Blacks 2024
Reiko Ioane creates nothing for his wingers. His first instinct is always to run the ball, to take contact. All Black wingers have consistently been starved of ball when playing outside Ioane. That's a f**king huge issue.

Re: SRP R10 Crusaders v Rebels
If we're being honest, that was a dire performance by the Crusaders. I don't have the stats, but I'd guess we made a dozen handling errors, most were unforced. Passes that did stick were more often than not high, low or behind their target player, As well as our handling, our kicking was poor, both ...

Will be interesting to see if Robertson persists with a non-passing, ball-hogging, selfish centre like Ioane.
At this stage 12 is Barrett and 13 is wide open.

What's the deal with the directors being personally liable for the Rebels tax bill? Yeah, just looking at that article posted above, it seems like the Rebels future is far from assured. There are two legal battles, against RA and the ATO, that have to be won by the Rebels before this deal happens.

Interestingly Savea played off the bench in his last Japanese league game. Sam Cane hasn't even been playing. Sam Cane is an ill-disciplined cart horse, and the worst All Black captain of the pro-era. His undeserved elevation to the captaincy perfectly illustrates the nepotism and 'jobs for the boy...

Restaurants and pubs are open. I’m going out today with the #boys. Will also be enjoying the NRL. Ok, pubs are open. I see the NRL has scheduled a three game Rugby League marathon today for ANZAC day. Very smart scheduling, IMO. It's a national public holiday. Hard to do this given SH players haven't played test Rugby since last year's RWC and NH players have played the 6N this year. You're effectively comparing form from last year to form from more recently.

I don't mind the changes, this is probably one of the stronger sides we've fielded this year. Newell, McAlister, Bower is our best fit front row - Franks and Moody are done and Bell's throwing has been poor. Hopefully McAlister is better for the run last week. Lovely having Barrett back in the seco...
