Re: Why have Newcastle been so poor this season?
This is the answer. They are spending the least on wages in the Prem by a country mile. They don't attract the talent, and what little they develop tends to go elsewhere for more cash. This is what ringfencing and high salary caps have done to the Prem. We basically have three cohorts of clubs this...

Re: Why have Newcastle been so poor this season?
They don't really sell though. They just shed players at the end of contract or even mid contract recently. There's no windfall from it as there's not a transfer market to speak of in pro rugby. They have cut costs down to the bone try to survive until the financial reality of pro rugby in England ...

I think he likes JVP- but the lad definitely needs to be less of a bomb scare. Quirke is good but too fragile.

Re: Why have Newcastle been so poor this season?
They sell all of their best players, and repeating it again at the end of the season. If all rugby clubs stayed within their means, then the likes of Newcastle would be more competitive.

Re: **OFFICIAL** English Rugby Thread
We are now in the Mitchell/Spencer era. Possibly JVP backing them up. About bloody time. We could easily skip past Spencer and have one of JVP, Quirke or even Randall on the bench. Spencer is only a couple of years younger than Youngs, or only a decade younger than Care! Which is to say Spencer's t...

Re: **OFFICIAL** English Rugby Thread
Imagine picking care ahead of Spencer. Some good bits so far in this game. It's absolutely insane. Care is surely done now? Although he should've been retired years ago. Spencer seems tailor-made for test rugby but has never got a proper shot. Very strange. Makes my brain hurt. Pretty well matched ...

Re: Saracens vs Harlequins at Tottenham stadium (The Showdown)
Owen, come back please!!! Yep. Brings more control than Smith He may not be as naturally gifted but he's a much rugby player. Certainly you want someone like Farrell at test level. Quite the opposite, he doesn't have the time at international level that he does against this shambles of a Quins side...

Quins decide to make them look like the vintage all blacks- even Maitland and Daly looked world class- absolute shambles.
This Beard guy though, he can't be this bad surely? Played like an absolute vagina.
Dan and Baxter were handy.

It's Curry I feel sorry for. By the looks of the discussion one missed 6N and his England career is over Yeah, and he’s been the best backrower for about 7 years. I’m not ready to ditch him yet. It is nice we have some must-have players now though, like Earl. Ideally something like….Curry, Earl, Me...

Re: **OFFICIAL** English Rugby Thread
Take a look at Mercer’s record in the Top 14, most carries ever (by a mile), most defenders beaten, most offloads, most metres by a forward. He has a phenomenal engine. He may get the plaudits for the fancy stuff but he absolutely doesn’t shy away from the hard stuff either. Look at the stats, and ...

Lippy Leo was hostile enough but the political wing of the IRA is probably going to be too much and we don't really want a land border with it. His 40-yard dash – 4.50 seconds and 4.44 seconds. Not terrible but not the "lightning fast" we were promised.
