Re: 2024 "SA Rugby Factory" Varsity Cup
Disappointed the Ikeys did not pull off a win but Shimlas played some fantastic rugby. We stood and applauded some of their tries. What a joy to see rugby being played like that. They deserved the win in the end. The scrumhalf was very good. We have a lot of good scrumhalves in SA rugby at the momen...

Re: 2024 "SA Rugby Factory" Varsity Cup
After losing the final last year and the league game to the Eagles a week ago, to come back and win dominating is a great result for the Ikeys. Great respect for the Eagles team and coaches, they really do develop talent. The fans on social media were not do gracious and the old playbook of the ref ...

Re: Chasing the Sun 2
I am enjoying the series. One of the negatives is that it brings back a lot of the stress I felt at the time of the games. My wife had the ambulance on speed dial for the last few games. I am one of those that lives and breaths the game and I dont cope well with the pressure. I could never be a coac...

The Young Guns semi-finals are also: NW Eagles against Ikeys and Shimlas vs Maties I am glad it is the same teams in both the senior and junior competitions. There are a number of under 20 players in the senior sides and this way the teams wont be tempted to move the players down to the YG competiti...

Re: URCR12 Stormers vs Embra
Agree Simalani was great but the weakness was the number of times he should have looked for the offload. I am sure in the reviews they will look at this. He is going to prove to be one of our best acquisitions. I am sure Dobo is having to look at local club rugby for a loosehead in view of all the i...

Re: South Africa overflow of rugby players
That could definitely work and it would add a little spice to the local derbies. In recent past in Cape Town the Universities sides have counted their Varsity Cup games against each other as a result in the local league as well, which has definitely helped reduce the huge number of fixtures they play.

Re: 2024 "SA Rugby Factory" Varsity Cup
Ikeys beat UJ by 8 points in wet weather conditions. The strange thing is that with a few minutes remaining the Ikeys were camping on the UJ line, which was more nerve racking than if we had been in our own half. A breakaway 7 point try with conversion could have won the game for UJ. A rule that bri...

Maties fully deserved the win. They played very well against a strong wind in the second half. The disrupted the Ikey lineout the whole night. Windy conditions makes it difficult for backline play. Unfortunately we dont have a stadium. 5000 tickets sold and it is going to be packed. That is too many people for the ground i.m.h.o. and viewing is going to be difficult. One of the better buys from the Sharks and I understand the need to purchase big name players. Just think the Sharks overdo this and dont rely enough on talent coming through to meet the needs. Who would want to be a young prop/hooker/centre at the Sharks, your chances of taking a step up are not gr...

Re: 2024 "SA Rugby Factory" Varsity Cup
From what I have seen of Maties they will have the strongest pack of forwards in the competition (with Tukkies out). Pukke seem to have lost a few players. My call is for a Maties/Ikeys final based on what I know of the squads, although Shimlas or Wits may surprise. Ikeys have 4 Paarl Gym, 1 Paarl B...

The Stormers lack of midfield cover is a little worrying with Du Plessis and Nel etc. injured. Some good youngsters coming through at under 21 level but not ready to step up (other than Sasha).

As a 66 year old rugby addict where I live rugby is not dead or dying, if anything it is growing in popularity. In season I go to schools rugby in the morning and club rugby in the afternoon. High risk selection tactic but nothing ventured nothing gained. We had to do something after the semi-final struggle/fatigue. If it does rain and the field is wet and heavy it could be massive. As a Bok supporter it felt like we were hanging on by a thread the whole game and there were times the French had opportunities to get away from us. I was not a big Dweba fan (I am not a fan of players looking for the cameras) but he has matured and developed well over the past six months. He has also been training with the squad pre-tournament. If Bongi gets injured in any of the knock-out games we will be in trouble. This is a very specialized...

With a country like Japan, with a large population and plenty of money the opportunity/potential for development was always good. With other countries it is not necessarily the same. For example Namibia is a poor country with a small population spread over a large area. Japan is approximately 377,91...

I would say the teams are very even but home ground advantage should see the AB's over the line by 5/10 points. As with other Saffers I am happy Dmac is not playing. That final was a great advert for rugby. It could have gone either way right up to the end.
