Re: Leinster Junior Rugby Thread

I don't really get this shadow thing Similar to what the Aussies do. Firsts and seconds play the same club, same venue, same day. Get much better crowds at matches that hang around for longer. Only really practical when the firsts are playing locally though – less practical when Dolphin play Ballym...

Re: Leinster Junior Rugby Thread

We've finished top again this year but this time in Metro Div 8. Home final against Stillorgan and if we win we'll be going up again. Utterly ridiculous series of results achieved by the players over the last two years. This is the best the club has ever done. That's serious work, best of luck LM. ...

Metro 4 final tomorrow night against Collidge in Bellfield. Couple of humdinger games against them this year already, so we'll see how it goes. Only real issue with the season is that Blackrock dropped out early making it a 6 team league. Two matches since Christmas and 2nds Towns Cup doesn't start ...

Re: Attn Coaches; 2-4-2 or similar formations

1-3-3-1 more coverage across the pitch, less gaps. Can easily become a 4-3-1 or 1-3-4 as needed. Usually see flankers on each edge then whatever combos you see fit in the middle, though prop/2nd row/hooker or 8 is usually the most balanced Its simple and doesn't have to be too prescriptive. It just ...

Back into the fray and booting up against UCD tonight in M4. I'm not looking forward to playing students after gaining a cheese-related stone over the Cri'mas.

I see Blackrock J2s have (been?) withdrawn from M4. Makes it a 6 team league now which is a pain in the proverbial.

TC 1st round is March this year, so I'm guessing the bye is to facilitate end of season playoffs.... Handy out for them all the same though!...

Got our first win in MJL2 this season beating Naas away yesterday. Down 15 0 in the first 20 mins and then clawed it back to 19 - 15 only to immediately concede another try. Penalty kick to win and then survived an attack on our line at the end to win 22 - 20. The body and head is sore today  ...

Firsts are having a torrid time but junior section is back on the horsie.

J1s got a good win against Lansdowne (J2s in fairness) in Metro 2

J2s hammered Blackrock in Metro 4. See they gave away another walkover in Metro 1, too

Gents. What Irish clubs are FCs, as opposed to RFCs?

So far, in no particular order:

Dublin University
Wanderers
Lansdowne
Clontarf
Bective
Monkstown
DLSP
Carlow
Cork Con
Garryowen
Clanwilliam

Am I missing any? Thanks in advance!

It's not just a line speed thing. It's never 100% watching the man or 100% watching the ball - watching the man and checking for the ball means you get dragged away from the man, watching the ball and checking for the man means you get dragged towards the man. Wut? Watching the ball carrier and kee...

Apart from the word 'honeypot' being nowhere near the debate I'm not 100% what following the ball not the man in defence actually is and how it can prove more effective. Anyone? I'm not 100% on this, but at its simplest I believe it refers to reaction times from when the ball is played from the ruc...
