Re: The OFFICIAL English and European Football (soccer) thread
Didn't it have to get mayoral seal? Conservative Lord Coe insisted the stadium had to be built with a permeant running track. That meant it was a white elephant pure and simple. It's almost certainly why Gold and Sullivan bought West Ham. They knew they would be the only game in town. Spurs wanted ...

No doubt Tesla are over valued. As you say they are being treated like a tech company that can collect high margins. Batteries will be commoditised - there is nothing to separate a Tesla battery to say an LG Chen battery. My point was that comparing it to VW is not right. The market for batteries i...

Does anyone know what the world-record (weight, time) for holding a weight directly out in front of you with your arm at right angles with your body? I'd be happy with 13 seconds! A proper flat out sprint is difficult and really takes it out of you. They're something I've considered at various points over the years as being worth doing as part of training, but I never have. Dude it really does, I was not expecting it. Today I'm aching in a...

Re: The things you do ... getting old #274
It’s just on 10pm, finished first training for the season (field hockey). To have a chance of playing on Saturday I’m in the pool up to mid chest to ease the pain and fluid in knee and ankle. It’s cold... really cold. Hockey is just really shit for old bodies. Artificial turf is unforgiving on knee...

Always scoff down some vintage port at Christmas/New Year. 85 Warre's and '85 Graham's this year and both great drinking. Best bottle of wine was a 2005 St Hallet Old Block Shiraz, which was superb. Need to have a few weeks off the booze now though....

Re: The Training Thread - all aspects of fitness and health
Working from home since March, has meant fewer weights, circuit sessions etc. (as I used to use the gym and studio classes at work) and more running and cycling. I've lost about 10lbs and at the ripe old age of 49 hit some PBs (got 5k down to 20:39). The biggest difference to my running training has...

Nothing particularly new here. I suspect most 'invasion' games have used similar for some time. It's well known that quick turnover/transition play can be especially deadly, as the team who has lost possession are not set up to defend - the detail for each team/sport is how to exploit that and also ...

Getting out there routinely without worrying regularly about how far/fast might be really useful. As a runner most of us barely register above 'beginner', and the consequences of being 'bigger' and trying to run a lot in a relatively short space of time might be quite bad. Or not even a lot - last ...

Re: Back to school or stay at home : 1.6.2020 UK?
Personal view and justification: I would have no issue with sending my son back to school. Obviously his risk of catching the disease will be higher than it would be at home. However, 90% of Covid-19 deaths are aged over 65 and of those younger than 65 most had some form of co-morbidity. Also, for s...

I'd do that if I had access to a rower. Not some crazy amount of cardio, so I can get behind that. To be honest it is more of an anaerobic burst. I managed 326m which is a 1:32 split. There are some crazy feckers out there getting 400m plus. Some dubious scores being posted though as they are not v...

Sounds like torn cartilage - had similar on a number of occasions. You've done well to get to 65 before having this.
