Re: Leinster vs Munster, May 13th, 5.30pm

Memories of last seasons damp squib and forthcoming World Cup selection should keep Leinster on their toes. That said, plenty of Munster lads with a point to prove as well. Keen to see who is going to back up McCloskey in France.

Yeah, I don't understand that really. If he actually said that then I suppose we have to take him at his word. And then supposedly the reason he didn't stay at Munster was because he'd slipped down the pecking order and also felt that he was not going to get a look in with Ireland. Funny so that he...

Jack Carty and Billy Burns taking up two out-half slots while Ben Healy a much better and younger player than either is off to Scotland. There is going to be a natural tendency for provincial coaches to want a ten who gives them some consistency in the league. Carty can turn it on but didn’t play w...

IRFU need to step in and fund a proper coaching team at Ulster. It’s utterly dysfunctional for one branch of their organisation to be bringing in the likes of Jacques Nienaber, whilst another is making do with promoted schools coaches. Well played Connacht - hoping you go all the way. IRFU aren’t g...

Always seems to be the way with Ulster when a coach has gone stale, but the players are miles off the required standard and intensity.

Painful to watch that first half. Brace is clueless, doubling down on stupid calls to prove a point and ignoring the TMO. I thought he only got two calls wrong. The last two penalties. Two deliberate fouls from Connacht in five seconds off that Hume breakout. Cooney and McCloskey are going the wron...

I think he has been great. Maybe he doesn’t have Coetzee’s highlight reel but he has been consistently available, consistently excellent, come up with very big plays in key games and the pack have over performed whilst he has been here.

This is the key, he saw the incoming context and raised his head. A bit stupid.
It’s vdF trying to clear him out; the responsibility should be on vdF to avoid head contact.
He dropped about two foot and then drove his head upwards

Up until he raised his head up, he was fine. Ah no. VdF charged at him, he has to have the right to protect himself. The Toulouse 14 clearing out McGrath was worse just now. Sorry, what? He initially made contact with VDF's chest. This was absolutely fine. But he then raised his head to chin him. I...

Re: Bedlam in the Bedpan - Ireland v England, 2023 6N Rd.5. Sat Mar 18th GS Decider

I can’t think of any defensive rugby situation where a player is coached to tuck his arms in like Steward did. Lord Bald said it at halftime, “entitled to protect himself”. These kind of collisions/“rugby incidents” used to be accepted as part of the game, we were certainly coached to turn side on....

Personally I thought it was probably a yellow with another referee and some discretion but it is hard to argue against a red under the current framework. Twenty plus years ago, when most of the outraged people were probably playing, you used to be able to turn into these kind of collisions, “protec...

I don’t think there was any malicious intent from Steward, he has probably been coached into turning into contact like that since he was a kid but the game is moving on, and like the high ball rules, if you’re going to be second to the ball you will have to adjust accordingly. I can’t think of any ...

I don’t see the problem with Byrne, there are game breakers all over the pitch, pick somebody who kicks their goals and makes good decisions. Maybe they’ll look at Coombes over Conan again now. The last couple of matches have laid down a serious marker IMO. Pumping that French team the way they did on Saturday is only going to fuel the fire. Keenan, Ringrose, McCloskey, Casey, Doris, Ryan and Porter have stepped it up another level again from last year. Byrne looks to have decided to take ...
