Re: RIP the internal combustion engine!
Cheers for the information, FA. You mentioned the batteries. Ford has endorsed Tesla's Panasonic batteries as the best in the world and is using it themselves in their Ford C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid. Next year Panasonic will be mass producing new batteries with a 30% increase in energy storage ov...

Re: Does anyone do home brew??
I have just entered the Village annual brewing competition for the first time. Doog22 I shall be expecting you to design me a suitable(one that my friends can see) beer label for this mighty ale. Anyone got any useful tips?? Racking and fining are very important if you don't want excessive yeastine...

Re: RIP the internal combustion engine!
It would be nice to believe you are right but I don't think you are. The ability to automatically drive a car and avoid randomly moving objects is extremely difficult to accomplish. There are various robotics programs aimed precisely in this area and they are currently limited to very slow speeds a...

Re: RIP the internal combustion engine!
Just an oddball thought with regards highway charging.
The contact area of a tyre is both in contact with the road and stationary in relation to it.
Maybe not really a feasible location for on part of an inductive coupling, but just throwing it out there..

See here for wireless charging. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/click_online/9708468.stm Though the video doesn't state it explicitly, using a little imagination you could install these at traffic lights. As you approach an electronic handshake could tell the charger your details so that you ...

Re: RIP the internal combustion engine!
Bobby Bobson, so what would you use for highway charging? How much power could it transfer and at what efficiency? The trouble with a 2-dimensional transmitter is that it is only going to be aligned for a small fraction of a second. Insurmountable? I know that inductive power transfer systems have ...

Re: NZ: who's in charge here?
The police investigation has nothing to do with finding criminal liability. It is about Russel Norman trying to keep this as a headlinef or as long as possible. Fair dues. It is a waste of money but no more so than many other such stunts by politicians when they call for commissions for everything ...

I really do think the real revolution in personal transport is going to occur in the transportation system rather than propulsion. Re: NZ: who's in charge here?
He is parroting the police line that they had do use all that force in order to minimize the risk. He even dreams up a scenario of a couple of police killed if they hadn't done the raid like that . That's a real stretch!  What a f**king tosser, an absolute wanker Key is turni...

Re: RIP the internal combustion engine!
Much as I see the benefits of electric vehicles and don't fear the ability of the electricity grid to adapt, I wonder if we have missed the benefits of a much simpler technology that can achieve similar results. The average occupancy of cars when commuting is about 1.3. Improving the occupancy to 2 ...

Re: Official 'CANES v SHORKS in the 'NAKI thread.
Woo hoo!!! :D Great win and a really enjoyable team to support at the moment. How about this for a theory: they don't get good possession or territory stats because they score tries so quickly when they do get possession, thus turning the ball over to the opposition... :P (Only half joking there.) ...
