Re: The official cycling thread

Is that a grimace or a smile on your mush in the first picture? 25% hill = definitely a grimace! Would that be that there Blissford Hill? Kudos for making it up it. Yarp 8) The rest of the route will have been a breeze compared to that. From what I remember, it was pretty chilly out that day - I ma...

Re: The official cycling thread

Enjoy the cattle grids, Joost Cheers old chap, didn't fancy it yourself? The wiggle-sponsored events are very well run Couldn't get in in time - looking at the Jurassic Beast and the one out of Bournemouth next month (I think). I've also been roped into a 100k ride round Dartmoor next month for the...

Re: The official cycling thread

IIRC the local shop will do a pair fitted for €70 or €80 so that sounds reasonable. Sounds reasonable to me too - will they include the inner tubes as well? Dunno, I think they are basically a few quid. Glad to hear people don't have that many punctures. To be honest getting one while commuting wou...

Re: The official cycling thread

Cheers for all the info lads. I reckon I need: Front mudguard. MTB one for rear will go on seatpost. A decent pump with gauge. Tool for removing wheels (got QR replaced with security bolts). Spare tube. I need to re-familiarise myself with a calculator and pi and I reckon I can get the speedo semia...

Re: The official cycling thread

Ah, I've never succombed. I've got a frankly sacrilegious set of DMR V12s on my road bike (in white, to match the saddle and bar tape). While I know there are good reasons for SPDs, I just don't feel the need to use them. I suspect they could be a bit of a pain in the arse for in town riding. Incid...

Re: The official cycling thread

HKCJ - as lovely as that P3 is, do you really think you can face 4-6 hours in an aero position on a TT bike? I fancy some new wheels for my bike, anyone had experience with Fulcrum racing wheels? Joost - I have some good Fulcrums (ones?) on my Wilier - good stiff wheels and managed to stay true thr...

Re: The official cycling thread

Steel is more flexible than aluminium so more comfortable as it absorbs bumps better (or at least, that's the idea). I think aluminium is less durable as well. On the other hand, aluminium is lighter and stiffer, which is better for out-and-out performance (and of course, carbon is lighter and stif...

Re: The official cycling thread

Duke - which do you prefer out of the etape and the alpine classic films? I've got Flanders, Bastogne, San Sabastian and the Rabobank training camp one, so could do with a mountainous one I wouldn't want to pick one to be honest, the Etape climbs are steeper and more scenic - Galibier is pretty bar...

I do, bloody marvelous things when you can persuade them to work (think my laptop may be at its limit trying to run the thing, which doesn't help). Not too many hills around here either, so a trip up the tourmalet makes for a nice change. My computer works reasonably well with it - sometimes get a ...
