Re: Official Ulster vs La Rochelle - 1pm Sky Sports Action

Maybe if Ulster left the laps of honour until the end of the season or when they actually win something, they might be able to back up a performance. Reminds me of when England did a lap of honour after drawing with the All Blacks as the ABs pissed themselves laughing in the changing rooms. Yes it'...

What are blackrock like this year? They got thumped 34-0 this morning by my sons school Not sure what sort of barometer that is Blackrock's firsts beat Methody this morning apparently. Blackrock sometimes send two teams North. The 1st XV will play a RBAI or Methody while the 2nds XV or a younger de...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread

So it seems Eir only bought the Irish rights to the Pro14, and Sky pulled out as they wanted both the UK and Irish rights. UK rights still up for negotiation.

I hope BBC NI still shows the Ulster games, not that listening to Ian Hump and Ryan Constable is pleasurable.

Re: The Training Thread - all aspects of fitness and health

Just back training weights for the first time in many years. Strength is coming back quickly but at 40, my recovery is not what it used to be.

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread

What exactly is the problem with the back line? You seen them try to play Supey? I don't know what people expect to be honest. Cave was meant to be the answer, had one good game and was nowhere close against Leinster. No Payne so Ludik comes in. Back 3 picks itself. I had a look at the UAFC thread ...

Re: Irish School Rugby 2018

Haven't followed it as much as in previous years but according to the chat really think it is RBAIs to lose. Methody aren't the same force without Davey Wells to the fore and Campbell seem to be rebuilding. Ballymena are perpetual underachievers given their resources. Disappointing to see strong sch...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread

Amateur adult playing numbers mean diddly-squat when it comes to success in a professional game, as the pro game par excellence American Football shows. What matters is the strength and depth of underage structures, and in particular the quality of coaching that u/a players receive. That is the har...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread

Re playing numbers, how many actual clubs are there? According to wikipedia there are 56 in Ulster, 71 in Leinster, 59 in Munster and 23 in Connacht. That's 209. 25,000 divided by 209 gives just under 120. That's 8 15s, or, more accurately 5 or 6 match day squads. I doubt many clubs can call on tha...

Re: The Official Cooking and Recipe thread.

No garlic? :( Gotta love garlic in carbonara... This is very true, but I tend to just take a clove, give it a quick bash to open it up and throw it into the pan when I am cooking the bacon. Remove it before actually making the sauce. You get a subtle flavour that isn't overpowering and you never bu...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread

i'd be very skeptical about senior playing numbers. I'm not even sceptical; they're absolute nonsense. The 2015/16 annual report claims 168,000 adult XV players with 43% playing six or more games. I find that extremely hard to believe. It would mean adult clubs here have an average of 800 players e...
