Haven't read it all, but the bits I did read look interesting. Well-written too.

Interestingly he was a native Hakka speaker, therefore was not a natural Mandarin supremacist, which gave him a perspective on ways to meld the mix of Chinese, Malays, and Indians in Singapore. Of course, he would be regarded as an extreme racist in western societies for his views on the native abi...

Remarkable man. It's easy to dislike his authoritarianism, but it's hard to argue with the proposition that he massively improved the lives of the overwhelming majority of Singaporeans, in the space of one generation. One is put in mind of Wren's epitaph: Lector, si monumentum requiris, circumspice.

It wouldn't surprise me. Aussie Rules is a bloody violent game in the lower leagues. Plus, it's played in some truly horrific shithole country towns in Victoria. Yeah, but still. Giving ice to a teenager because 'it will make him a better player'. That's scraping the most horrible barrel imaginable.

Ireland have had a good run of results over the last year or so and are ranked 3 - so they should be regarded as potential RWC winners, especially with a favourable draw. They also play a brand of rugby that works well for such a tournament. No problem with them talking themselves up and displaying...

AFL: is there any sh*t that Victorians won't take from it?

OK, I appreciate that this report is a bit anecdotal and not backed up by actual charges or convictions, and the numbers they refer to are small. And technically it's not the AFL itself, it's in country leagues. But it does raise the interesting question of whether or not there is any degree of bad ...

Ireland to play Scotland and likely to run up a large score inflating their PD, England up against France and unlikely to overhaul that PD, yet the trophy is at Twickenham meaning Ireland are presented with a fake trophy. Wales up against Italy and possibly more likely to bridge the PD gap. English...
