Agreed. Presumably past decision-making wasn't a factor in the selection.badmannotinjapan wrote:+1Grizz Wyllie wrote:Surely you'd use Ben Smith as first-five cover with Nehe Milner-Skudder on the bench instead of TJP.

Better at some aspects - probably, but then the reverse is also true. It's a pretty arbitrary judgement considering they fulfil different roles for their respective teams.

To the topic - the Welsh love rugby, I respect their passion and with the injuries they're having any kind run in the tournament is an achievement.

Re: Student union bans 'racist' sombreros
The one time I was motivated enough to vote in a student election was when someone included a pot plant (a small shrub not an actual 'pot plant') on the ballot. For all the short-comings of student politics the plant published a great manifesto and won by a landslide. Sadly a re-vote was triggered w...

Has there ever been more truth in "if it ain't broke don't fix it" than Super Rugby? I get 'growing rugby' but when core fans start losing interest you've got a problem. A standard round robin followed by play offs was best but sadly that was many iterations ago. That said, for the teams we play its...

It's a shame but understandable. I'm sure the rested players would have wanted a chance against the ABs and the ABs would have valued a tougher run out leading into the quarters.

In a similar vein, English blindside Tom Wood booted Liam Williams in the head and knocked him out cold. Obviously he would argue he was trying to kick the ball, and that may well be the case. As with the discussion about Dan Carter's kick, it raises the question of whether a player has a duty of c...

NZ v anybody but McCaw does something, anything, that helps the ABs win the game. The sheer volume of animated gifs and photoshopped images pointing to his malfeasance will crash the site, and possibly break the internet, particularly if it requires uploads of large images from countries with third...

Burgess needed to switch codes a season earlier and play in a settled position. I do get the impression he's been selected on hope. Weighing up his skills you'd say he could be a solid but never spectacular midfield back.

I don't think I can watch England play anymore. It makes me feel ill, annoyed, frustrated and angry. I can't really enjoy the game. I may just stick to just watching games not involving England - which, come the end of the round won't be a choice anyway. Maybe I'll record the Australia/England game...

If the main concern with voting rights is potential financial mismanagement, then why not separate the decision on funding from the right to vote. In NZ Otago didn't lose the right to individually vote when it was in big financial trouble.

Re: Rankings "worked out in a gypsy caravan park in Ireland"
The PI unions have a huge tradition/history in world rugby yet don't have individual voices at the voting table. Considering previous comments about a 'lack of respect' from the All Blacks not playing PI teams away, it seems odd that the rugby world hasn't granted the respect of being able to vote i...

I suspect you have a broader definition of the 'ou...

Yeah Barrett has great pace. The second to last Japanese try vs the Boks (line out and then to the backs) plus the context of the game makes that my favourite so far. If the Fijian halfback hadn't knocked on vs England that would have been up there too.

Two genuine upsets so far, Japan close at half time vs Scotland, England scoring late for the bonus point in the opener, Australia looking for the bonus point vs Fiji. There's plenty to argue against tedious for me.

A Waikato win was definitely on the cards particularly the way it looked in the first half. It's looking like an interesting season. Canterbury are unbeaten and top the table but with three very close wins it could have been quite different.
