Re: The Training Thread - all aspects of fitness and health

Had a deep tissue massage on Saturday, it was horrible :uhoh: I generally feel like I’m fairly loose and limber but she found enormous knots in my neck and pecs.

Going back in a couple weeks for her to have a go at my lower body which will be delightful I’m sure.

Re: The Training Thread - all aspects of fitness and health

I only do them with 60 as well. Purely just to groove the hinge movement, rather than actually get strong at them. I've found that emphasising the arse back part of the movement helps reduce any strain on the lower back. Centre of mass stays through your feet, rather than hanging out in front somew...

Re: The Training Thread - all aspects of fitness and health

I’m a big wimp so doubt it’s due to pain tolerance etc but I find it pretty comfortable these days. Built up a bit of a callus which helps.

Edit - if I get my thumb in the wrong spot it does feel like it’s going to explode, so maybe worth playing around with thumb placement and angle

Re: The Training Thread - all aspects of fitness and health

Starting a new (training) cycle today, adding in banded dread lifts with the band out in front. Intended to force me to lean back a bit and stop pitching forward as soon as I lift the weight. Very curious to see how I get on with them.

Benched 130kg at the weekend  Just came within an arse hair of getting pinned under 60kg while doing close grip volume work  Nice. Well jealous. Can you not do the roll of shame and sit up and dump the bar in front of you with 60kg? I've managed it with 90 in the I can...

Went for a 130kg bench this morning and got mildly crushed. Equalled my old 127kg pr with a much smoother rep though.

Into a deload next week and then focusing on cardio and fat loss for a month or two.

Re: The Training Thread - all aspects of fitness and health

I’ve never tried smelling salts but I’ve never been more insulted than when a power lifter at my gym was clearing his stuff out of a rack I was about to use, he picks up a used smelling salt sachet off the floor and says ‘oh you probably don’t even know what this is...’

I was deeply insulted.

Yeah mine was right in the SI joint, at least looking at diagrams online. Felt like there was bone grinding on bone and then shooting sciatic type pain down alternating legs from time to time. Re: The Training Thread - all aspects of fitness and health

I find deadlifts to be the mentally toughest lifts. I think it’s because it’s so easy to fail them with no consequences. The thought of being pinned under a heavy squat/bench is unpleasant enough that it adds some desperate motivation.

Re: Earthquakes

I experienced a very small one in Korea a few years back. It was about 5-10 seconds of low frequency rumbling and the kind of minor vibrations you get when a heavy truck drives past your house. It was creepy and I definitely wouldn't want to be stuck in a big one.

In my old job the company put everybody on a 4 day week, 10hrs a day during the busy season to avoid burnout and to keep overtime costs down. Having a day off midweek is great and working slightly longer hrs on the other days is hardly noticeable.
