Re: Louise Mensch

Why did she have to apologise. I thought the whole point of parliamentary privilege was she didn't have to. She also seemed to revel in the fact she didn't and wouldn't. You're right, legally she was protected by parliamentary privilege. I suppose she didn't HAVE to. A moral victory for the despica...

I regret to inform you that she really is as dumb as she appears. She tried to implicate Piers Morgan in phone hacking - an open goal you would think. She messed it up and had to apologise to him. Ok, definitely foul play as Scotland took out the (ex-)ball carrier but I'm not sure he would have probably gone on to score in a better positon so I would have gone for try only You misunderstand me, I happen to agree with your ruling of penalty or try. Did not see the game but if not for the foul play, SA could have scored in a better position then the PT should have been awarded. I'd like to see a clip of the incident first however. I reckon it would have been scored in the same position. <sigh> Here's the video, they've cut the conversation bet...

Didn't see the incident , if he was wasn't clearly going to collect the ball and improve the position rather then it isn't a penalty try. If he was clearly going to be able to collect the ball then it's a PT under the laws of the game. The wording is "probably". not "clearly". It may have been a so...

Try or Penalty Try?

This question has intrigued me for years, but the incident in the Paris 7's final was perhaps the clearest illustration of the law having unintended consequences. Rosko Specman broke down the wing and kicked ahead into the Scotland in goal area. George Horne tackled him without the ball, he couldn't...

They deserve this so much. Brown, Senatla and Geduld are really top players and I feared that losing all three (plus Specman effectively) would scupper our chances. The second string learned fast.

Houts, don't you think the Kings and Sharks are also trying to play the Lions/Kiwis/Mitchell/Ackermann style? Forget about the set piece accuracy and performance - that's a given for any rugby team. Actually Plumtree developed that culture at the Sharks Exactly. That's what we need to keep doing, a...

Following the last format:

QF1: 1st Pool B v 2nd Pool A
QF2: 1st Pool C v 2nd Pool D
QF3: 1st Pool D v 2nd Pool C
QF4: 1st Pool A v 2nd Pool B

SF1: QF1 v QF2
SF2: QF3 v QF4

By rankings, that would make the semi finals NZ/Scotland v England/Wales; and Australia/France v Ireland/South Africa

I'd like to know why Kiwi teams have such an ability to snatch victory from jaws of defeat. The way they play in the last 20 minutes of the match is incredible. So, still nothing about game style. Still no answer about whether you mean the Sharks are or are not still playing what you described as Plumtree's offloading game. Just doubling down on tackle completion %. Are you feeling OK?

Sards, Don't expect too much too soon. Actually the tries for and against is Lions 48/22, Sharks 24/23, Stormers 40/44, Bulls 22/34, Cheetahs 28/48, Kings 33/37. I think the Chiefs have the best defensive record (19), so the Lions and Sharks are not too far behind. Anyway, many (most?) tries are sco...

So much in this topic. Where to start? I'll start with the blueprint. SA need to get away from the size and strength model that worked for the Bulls and Boks from 2004 to 2011. These days every team is big and strong so there is no longer an advantage in playing "to our traditional strengths". The c...

The WP team have been using Brandon Thomson at 10 and Scott van Breda at 12. I would trust either one. Thomson is a good player, played for SA U20 in 2015 and was loaned to Glasgow Warriors for two months. He was on the Stormers bench last year.

It should be a full strength team. In the past, so many Pumas played in Europe so the first choice tended to get June off and play in the RC, while the second choice rested after that. Now that all their selections will be coming from the Jaguares, it should be first choice every game.
