Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Hines has been appointed to the Scotland coaching team. Gnarly bastard of a player. Good coach? And does this mean the sun is setting on Humphries Scotland career? VC obviously likes him. No idea how good a coach he is but hopefully can positively influence the young second rows. R Gray, J Gray, To...

Re: Saracens backing English talent ahead of overseas tripe

Richard Cockerill raiding Treviso looks even dumber in light of the season Tigers have had Wish he'd left Ghiraldini to us :(. I call bullshit on Sarries not using the 2nd marquee spot. Who are they bringing in this season? Even if they aren't a top earner they'll use it, just to open up more space...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Edinburgh started the game pretty well to get to 16-0 and then let Irish back into it. Showed good character to go and get the go ahead try and then hold them out at the end. Not a pretty game though. I thought SH-C looked pretty handy, needs to learn a bit more on the game management side of things...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Now being widely reported. Assuming it is correct it sets the market price pretty high (would probably be top 10 paid players now)- even though it is for the 2016/17 season onwards.

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Mike Blair to Glasgow. 2 year deal. Very astute signing. Experience, coaching potential, cover during internationals - Good piece of work from Toonie. So that's scrum half well covered then  Now, some wingers might be an idea A good one has just signed for Ulster for a reportedly stupid am...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Visser to Quims confirmed Fair enough. Doesn't fit Solomons "game plan" and has looked pretty miserable all season long. I think he'll fit well at Quims which could be good for Scotland as well if it reenergises him. It could go really well or he may almost dissapear as Quins may not be forgiving i...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

I wonder whether the English Premier sides would be open to a cross border A league to allow Edinburgh and Glasgow A teams to play them.

I think that could help and get the young 'uns decent gametime. I can't imagine that being too difficult to implement if it suited everyone.

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

As to the players being the main supporters i agree with this but if you actually look at the fixture list for the Pro12 games, of the 20 rounds that have either been played or have firm fixtures to come this would only have affected each team once, other than the one festive fixture at Scotstoun, ...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Dont think you are that far out with the player budget. According to Dodson it costs £7m to fund a pro team, which tbh i struggle with. If we compare this cost to football clubs in Scotland, a massively more popular sport with large crowd numbers week in, week out we can see the following: The aver...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

If you pay them they will come. Connacht has always been able to find players, maybe not world beaters but ordinary pros will play. Just from a Connacht point of view, I used to go to Connacht games 15 years ago when there was only 600 or people going. Now they are up to 5,000. They've only really ...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Going back to the structure of Pro Rugby in Scotland again. If we accept that, at a minimum, we need to move to 4 Pro sides like the Welsh and Irish then where do we put the extra two sides? IMHO #3 has to be Aberdeen, it would bring in decent enough attendances and would therefore significantly of...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

I like the Manu signing in so much as I like him as a player and think he'll do well.

What I do not like about it is that Coman has recently signed a new contract and along with Manu, Du Preez, Denton and Grant this may block the younger players like Watson, Ritchie and Bradbury developing.

Kieran Lowe - Don't get that signing from Glasgow.

Who is driving these signings? Doesn't feel like a Glasgow signing. They need real quality additions to their squad to help take them to the next level.

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

One thing that has surprised me today is the sadness of Edinburgh fans and the happiness of Glasgow fans at Hart moving to Glasgow.

SH-C and Pyrgos are both well ahead of Hart from what I've seen.

Kennedy, Price and Horne Jnr all have more potential (based on a very limited sample).

Re: Scotland looking to residency-qualify Naiyaravoro

Playing devils advocate, whilst it's likely - who says it is the SRU who are insisting on that clause? The other thing is when ever a half decent non capped player comes to any country people instantly start talking about a "project player". IIRC Strauss only signed for Glasgow due to another playe...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

I can see the rationale in that clause from both sides - even if I hate it from the SRU side. From the player, if he gets capped for Oz he might want to hang around and earn a bit more $$. From the SRU point of view if the sums quoted are correct (175k/yr) it is an expensive gamble for someone so in...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

My ratings. IMO fairly generous. England could have had 35 on the board at ht. Hogg - 7 - Much better in defence and under the high ball. Needs to work on decision making when returning the ball. Fife - 3 - Awful. Inexperienced at this level but was badly exposed against Nowell who isn't a world bea...

Until Scotland start winning these types of games for than once in a blue moon I see Wales as favourites.

Need a bit more at the breakdown and out bench needs more impact from it.

Re: Official NFL 2014

New around here but for those wondering about salary etc the Sportrac website is pretty handy (if not exact?): Wilsons cap hit this year is 1/2 a million. Taking Joe Flaccos contract as a starting point ($120million, 6 years, $30million guarentted) the cap hit could be between 10-15million next seas...
