Re: Mungoball's Global Contraction III - Revenge of the Mung

I think it was in this thread or maybe one of the Izzy ones where Parra wrote about the % of NRL players that come from the Parra and Penrith and it was staggering. Quite risible how many premierships they have won then compared to a club like the Sea Eagles from the Northern Beaches which provides...

Parra really, really hates rah rahs.

He makes an exception for Dick Thornett, Ray Price, Tony Melrose, and all the lesser known rugby poaches who have starred for his team over the years.

Mind you, the National Ballooning Championships are probably being run by somebody with a background in ballooning.

As I said earlier, it's the "Don Draper Show". Yes, there are some interesting characters, like Roger, Joan, and Peggy, but basically it has always been about Don. He is listed as Producer in this series, not sure whether this is something new.

It stretches one's credulity to accept that Don somehow manages to have it away with his neighbour's wife after a New Year party, then slips back into the marital bed, without his own wife having the slightest idea of what is going on. He doesn't bring back any trace of the other woman, no smells, n...

The first two episodes were pretty disjointed, I thought, the agency is the key to the series, and we need to know a bit more about how it has managed to grow so quickly.

Mad Men Series 6.

The first two episodes were shown here Monday, concatenated into one.

It's pretty much the Don Draper show these days.

Not particularly impressive, frankly. Top of the Lake (also starring Elisabeth Moss) is much, much better.

Rugby on FTA throughout Australia, starting this weekend.

Sydney's club competition, the Shute Shield, kicks off this Saturday, with the people's team, Eastwood, taking on the upstarts from the Shire, Southern Districts, who are still trying to buy their first premiership. What on earth is the point of arguing with Gort about the role of the Vichy government 70 years ago? He is one of a couple of hundred mungoes in the world who have persuaded themselves that, had the Second World War not taken place, their little game would now rule the world. Or rule France. I do get amused with the continual blame over something that happened 80 years age for the demise of a sport, despite France getting to the final of the Rugby League World cup in 1954. If they were one of the top sides in the 50s in RL, they seemed to have got over whatever problems occurred previo...

The Rebels were far too risk averse in their first season, they should have taken a few punts. They took none.

Another aspect of the game that I remember well, in the sixties, perhaps later than that, was that there was no restriction on the length of the lineout, so the defending team could, and often did, post at least one player 20 metres (or yards as it was then) infield, opposite the opposing centre.
