Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread

Don't know if it's been mentioned (or even if it's true) but my brother said that he'd heard Ger Slattery was given a Munster contract. Would make sense considering Mike Sherry will presumably be involved in Ireland squads and then all we have is Henry and Varley. Bit thin at hooker.

Re: Kidney Out.

Can hardly blame Murray for this game, nor do I think it's fair to blame every poor performance on Murray, considering this inconsistency goes back to 2010, but I agree with your general point. Our best performances have generally come with Reddan and Sexton. Why he feels the need to use every combi...

Re: Kidney Out.

If you discount the WC, last week served as our customary one good performance per season. Been the pattern since the GS year. We really need a coach who can set out a coherent attacking gameplan, and get them to play it. This is embarrassing. And whilst I'm never in favour of blaming the coach comp...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread

What's our likely backrow to be? 6. MCLAUGH 7. SOB 8. POM??? Tough one. SOB is by far our best 8 [after Heaslip] but also by far our best 7. It would be funny if he followed McCaw to 8. He could also go for Henry at 7 with SOB 8. It would get a fresh player on the pitch, just get him to go hell for...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread

Ok, team for next week. 15. Kearney 14. Trimble (just, he was between nonentity and poor today, McFadden actually had the better game, but Trimble overall probably offers more) 13. BOD (at 13 and only 13) 12. D'Arcy (has to has to has to start again, this is our best centre combo, that is a FACT) 1...

Is this talk of his injury being career threatening actually serious or is it just another one of those 'heard down the pub he can't play any more' stories? Either way he really has had rotten luck since the Lions tour and always came across as a nice guy. Hopefully for Ireland's sake he'll get back...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread

Has Thornley seen those two f**king monsters at Clongowes? The real issue with schools level props is that the physical demands to turn an 18 year old kid into an 18 or 19 stone man/monster are far too extreme for most people beyond a tiny handful. Also, I'm not even sure he's pushing an agenda, so...

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread

In fairness to Thornley, he has a point about the schools, but, he doesn't make it well. The scrummaging laws at schools level, largely negate the benefit of strong scrummaging. Props like the Clongowes ones are the exceptions, and I dare say that if they weren't also such exceptional footballers, ...

I agree. Kearney had his best game for Ireland in a long time, not that he's been poor lately but he was outstanding today.

If Reddan and Ryan don't start it'll be farcical.
