The real issue with schools level props is that the physical demands to turn an 18 year old kid into an 18 or 19 stone man/monster are far too extreme for most people beyond a tiny handful. In fairness to Thornley, he has a point about the schools, but, he doesn't make it well. The scrummaging laws at schools level, largely negate the benefit of strong scrummaging. Props like the Clongowes ones are the exceptions, and I dare say that if they weren't also such exceptional footballers, ...
