I haven't read the whole thread, but the best sport, by far, for kids is wrestling or judo. It runs pretty much the whole year, it is great for balance, fitnes and discipline and it also boosts their confidence.

Most big schools have their own site with results from U14E to U18A weekly. Generaal Hertzog (Mpumalanga). They're not one of the top schools though...
