Re: Northern Ireland is more affluent than the Republic
Irish farmers claiming poverty again? For once I think that you have a point. When I compare my "slightly above average" rural area against the neighbouring "very affluent" urban enclave - I know which of the 2 has greater wealth & disposable income (& it's not the town). Of course there are only a...

Re: Your country's depth at no.10?
I'm not suggesting that having excellent depth in every position is the be all and end all, but I'm interested to hear how posters rate their country's respective depth in the crucial position of no.10. I believe that NZ has never had better depth at 10. Certainly not in the pro-era, even when we h...

Re: Best halfback in the World - Murray versus Smith
Smith is instrumental to the way the All Blacks play their game. He has one of if not the quickest clearance of any halfback in World Rugby and provides the rapid continuity on which the All Blacks thrive. He is arguably our most important player leading into the RWC. Conor Murray (in conjunction w...

Re: King Charles III to be a meddlesome king
On a semi-serious note: I really can't understand how intelligent people can accept a situation where a major position of state (I accept that it has no explicit power, but it has a hell of a lot of privilege & quite a bit of implicit power) is allocated on the basis of birth. To my mind it is just ...

Good post but that's not the reality of it. In an ideal world that might be the case but UCD and TCD have to benchmark themselves against an international standard. I think Irish Unis should exist to give irish kids education, not to be in the top 50 Unis in the world. I had assumed that these guys were tipping along at a few million - but €30m turnover (lets assume €10m profit since we don't have to worry about taxes on employment, VAT, or profits) buys you a lot of weaponry. I like the way the AB's do the haka. A bunch of white blokes prancing around trying to pay some sort of embarrassed and cap doffing homage to a culture that they decimated.
