Re: Pool A an utter joke
If you are good enough to win a RWC you can make it out of pool play. End of. That's very narrow minded, the only time I watch soccer is the WC, I'm sure there are lots of people who are the same with rugby, so it's in rugbys interest to not have mickey mouse contests in the knock out stages especi...

Re: Pool A an utter joke
Most people on here are just trying to score Internet cool points by saying it's Wales own fault, they knew etc. So they had a weak spell years ago between WCs, who cares, world rugby needs to be smarter than this, will it be good for rugby when Scotland get a beating in a QF? Having a team who near...

Why do they have a draw then?Slim 293 wrote:ihavenopantson wrote:There should be no draw at all, teams should be placed in pools based on ranking, this will make sure to spread it out evenly. Also it needs to be on rankings closer to the event.
Er, it's already based on rankings, albeit 3 years out from the event.........

Re: Pool A an utter joke
I agree it's a joke, with the limited number of competitive teams in world rugby we can't screw over a competitive team like this. Wales were a semi finalist last time, not only do they play England and Australia, but their schedule is awful compared to England and Australia who have games nicely sp...

Can someone tell me, do teams always play their full strength side in the Champions League? I ask because I'm in Spain at the moment, I'd like to go see Real Madrid play at home, they play a Champions league game against Shakhtar on the 15th, but if it might not be the top side I would wait for the ...

Why doesn't he join the Jap team, they need players.
And good on the NZRU, he'll get injured like always anyway, so may as well save that money.

3 half backs is a must to me, especially since we'll be playing Ireland or SA in the QF. If Smith gets a non tournament ending injury you don't want to be in position to have to play Slade at 9 in a knock out game against those teams, if we were likely to play Arg or Scotland in the QF maybe differe...

SBW would've made a great Tight End I reckon, Dusatoir Outside Linebacker, Skelton Offensive Tackle, Folau Wide Receiver, and some back rowers would make good Tight Ends (Read, Vermeulen etc)

Re: World Cup failure 15
Just because NZ won doesn't mean everything Henry did was perfect and everything every other coach did was wrong. It didn't have to be perfect, but he succeeded. Which is kind of the opposite of failing, I would have thought. Robbie Deans was a Trans-tasman flop and lost to Henry. Robbie Deans has ...

What a FUBAR OP, along with Ali Williams Lucky Luke was probably the AB MoTM in 07. Jeff Wilson was worse than Umaga, he wasn't a fullback and was completely exposed and out of position. I originally had Wilson (can see it in the quoted post) but I've updated the OP, Hastings probably deserves it m...

The people who've said they voted someone else so far have named someone in a different category.

There could be a bigger WC failure coach, I added some obvious choices to get the ball rolling, waiting for someone to give a better option.

8. Bobby Skinstad - before the 99 WC South Africans were saying Skinstad will be the Jonah Lomu of the 99 WC, as it turned out Jonah Lomu was the Jonah Lomu of the 99 WC and Skinstad was more like the Reuben Thorne or maybe Taine Randall of the 99 WC

Coach. Graham Henry - when it comes to World Cup time he couldn't pick his nose let alone a team. If you're going to non-sensically put World Cup winners in a World Cup failure thread then Mike Catt at 15 with bells on. Like I say, it's based on the performance of the individual, not the team. World Cup failure 15, based on individual performance (so I'm not looking for '{great player} never made it to {certain stage of the wc}' as that is based on team performance. Also based on their WC performances compared against their overall test career. I'll add a few to get it started, if you hav...

Re: Who is your second and third team at this years WC
After NZ, I would go France Ireland Wales Argentina If one of them win, it will mean 5 different winners the last 5 WC, which would be good for rugby (these are the only teams with a realistic chance other than the previous winners) If not then I would go for England, because then 4 different teams ...

Gotta have Sopoaga instead of Slade, with Carter being so fragile another specialist 10 is needed rather than Barrett and Slade who have really only been used as utility bench guys and haven't proven themselves as starting 10's at international level. SBW should be in for an outside back. Hard to sa...

Someone said earlier that McCaw has benefited from always playing for the best team, but didn't say anything about who Bradman played for, I wonder if he benefited from never having to face the Aussies in cricket? I looked up Bradman's stats, he played 37 tests against England, 5 against India, 5 ag...

Re: Israel dagg should be excluded from the rwc
I've always thought with the nature of world cups with lower scoring tight battles that we needed to stick with Dagg because he is so solid under the high ball and with his huge punt. But finally I'm thinking we'd be much better with Savea, Smith, Piutau. Piutau looks so dangerous whenever he touche...

Women need to invent sports that suit them instead of playing mens sports and looking like handicaps, that's the reason Netball is successful, because it is basically basketball with rules modified to take out some athleticism, speed and skill, so it works. If Aliens arrive on earth and they literal...

I'd have Piutau as a starter in my AB team, on the right wing, with Savea and Ben Smith as the other back 3 starters, but moving Smith to wing and adding Dagg, or just swapping in Jane to the right wing isn't a huge step down. Also the return of Rene Ranger largely off sets this loss as well since t...
