Re: British countryside is a ‘racist and colonial’ white space, wildlife charities claim

Having grown up in the countryside myself (rural Herefordshire) I can definitely say there are some old fashioned views towards non-white people. From what I have seen Its mostly of the casual sort rather than the overt hatred you can find in some individuals in urban areas It's a demonstrable fact...

Re: Kurt Beale arrested for alleged sexual assault…

I think people may not be aware that NSW is an active consent jurisdiction. 1. You can't assume consent based on silence 2. Consent is an ongoing process and may be withdrawn at any point 3. Intoxication can influence the ability to consent 4. Consent must be present for every sexual act. You can't...

Re: Fck me I'm Irish DNA analysis

When I did mine years ago I was surprised at some of the results. It has evolved over time and is now close to what I'd reasonably expect, i.e. over 40% West of Scotland with a smattering of Irish and Scandi, over 40% Italian with a smattering of French and Swiss.

This seems to be much more of an issue in Englandshire. We have several friends who split their time between Scotland and England (and in one case France) who are registered with dentists here. They all say the same thing, they can't get registered at home, here it is no issue. That is private, but ...

If you are Scottish you should be disgusted with that result. Last year once Scotland were on top they kept the foot down, this time as Russell said they got complacent. Then it looked horribly like they paniced. Losing Gray helped get the Welsh lineout back in the game. Losing Crosbie late on meant...

There's more than that too. Over 50k you start losing child benefit and over 100k you'll lose free childcare. The £50k to £60k marginal tax rate is 68% when you take into account child benefit. Yes. And the same is even more true in the benefits system. Earn an extra 50 quid a week and lose this ha...

Looking at that calculator, your overall rate on 100k is 32% and on 150k is 36%. Not that shocking. It'll increase a bit with the NI increase. The UK Gov calculator is wrong above £100k as it does not take into account the withdrawal of personal allowances. Not a huge difference but it means £150k ...

The cliff edge of some tax brackets and incentives here are a massive cause of economic inertia. Yep, and the fuckers keep lowering them.
