Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
No complaints about that team. Schmidt says it's picked on the basis of those who've spent most time together in training, which is fair enough.

There is amazing clarity in that photo - 1890s, I reckon, no Parnell monument. What was the source, and are there more ? http://www.flickr.com/photos/nlireland/ Some real "WTF?" pictures there, like this one of Leeson Street in 1903. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7215/7247430400_93bf7755ab_b.jpg

Re: The Official Irish Rugby Thread
First tough-ish call of the job for Schmidt. I think he still might give Jackson the slot. He's in that situation were he doesn't want to be seen playing favourites early on and he might think a show of faith in Jackson might help the lad.

Re: English teams should opt out of HEC says Wray
Pretty much all the fire against the PRL plan has been directed at the club owner's, not their fans, not the wider English rugby community. The response has been to take it as some kind of Celtic vendetta against the English. I have to admit that it's usually the Irish that take criticism as a natio...

RCC doesn't even exist yet and it's name is already poison. BT must be licking their lips at the prospect of selling a competition associated with greed, backstabbing, dishonesty and megalomania. Dead in the water as far as sports broadcasting goes but it would make a great fly on the wall documenta...

It's about making club rugby sustainable and not the financial black hole it's been for so long. Money made off the back of it wont get close to recouping the investments made over the years by the owners. What it will do is stop them being a constant financial drain. The clubs haven't proposed any...

If it's such a done deal why are they still hard selling it? Nothing about the clubs plan seems right. The Gardai are damned if they do and damned if they don't. The Roma are transient by nature. The Gardai would have been crucified if they left the kid with the family while they waited for the DNA results and the Romas got spooked by the whole thing and decided to leg it.

They would like to reach a point where they aren't just forking out 2-3 million (or more in Saracens case) each year just to stay afloat. They could do that now. Stop spending so much on wages. Free market my ass. The first thing Nigel Wray and his mates will do if they get control is to get rid of relegation from the AP. They're not going to all this effort to risk missing out on the reward. If there was more money coming in from an Anglo-French comp they'd strip a few teams out of the AP...

Re: En-ger-land CAN/CAN'T win the world cup thread
England are a bit like Spain were for a long time. A squad with some great individual reputations but always seem to underachieve as a team. They may not be favourites but they are capable of winning the tournament if they can get their shit together in the big games.
