Re: China backlash?
Good article today. Nails it here: For decades we have been told by the mandarins of the foreign policy establishment that the Chinese follow some Sun-Tzu-Confucius-Zhou-Enlai-Deng-Xiaoping-Middle-Empire hybrid of seven-dimension chess, that they are as amoral and cynical as we can imagine, and unb...

Re: NBA season 2019/20 - Purgatory
Curry is a great scorer but he’s not a great defender. Again what sets those Bulls teams apart is that they had three all time great defenders and Harper who was pretty damn good too. Aside from Draymond and maybe Iggy I don’t think GS really have anyone on that level. And MJ did all of his scoring ...

Rugby isn’t in a position where it can let the sport fail in certain markets in the hopes that it will catch on in others. You need to grow the small number of nations that can compete at the top. Cutting off Australia, or Italy as some suggest, wouldn’t achieve that. Elevating Japan is a good step ...

There is now a rail link connecting China and Germany ending in Duisburg. You say “now” like it’s something recent - it’s been running for a decade. I'd say MJ breaks Durant's will by game 2, and he spends the rest of the series focusing on which franchise he's going to next... in the meantime getting beaten up by an ageing Rodman, fresh off a 24 hr Vegas binge. Well that's easy... https://i.ytimg.com/vi/FYKP0OJNXqY/hqdefault.jpg

Rodman shut down Malone for most of the 98 finals. Someone did a series of videos on it. I don’t know if there were ever three defenders as good as MJ, Pippen and Rodman on the same team. All three are arguably top 10-15 defensive players in league history. That’s the biggest issue GSW or anyone else would face against the Bulls from that era.

I'm with CI on this one. KD is a top 15 player of all time. The greatest scorer of his generation. He really bought into the system in that first year at Golden State. They had the number 1 offense in the league, and the number 2 defence. I'd back them against any team any time, and I'm over 40 and...

I’m obviously a big Cavs fan and that series was an all time great memory. But I don’t see anything in the Warriors run that suggests that they were a better team than the 90s particularly late 90s Bulls. They don’t have anyone who could guard Jordan. Pippen would have given KD a tough time otoh.

With regard to the whole oft-repeated idea that we could just take football players in their 20s and make them into pro-standard rugby players (which seems to be a big part of this), over time I've become much more skeptical of this whole idea that there's this army of Dan Lyles waiting to be uncov...

Jordan was a pretty big villain in Cleveland over the years (knocked the Cavs out of the playoffs four times including this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=p5WUOnTxwPw ) but I think he comes across well in the series. Straightforward and cared more about winning than fame or any other bullshit.
