Re: Melbourne Rebels... SAVED?!
No one's trolling mate. New Zealand Rugby and world rugby desperately need Australian rugby to do better. Keeping a zombie team like the Rebels going isn't the answer. You think that was a helpful comment? Hes trolling. Sentiment from Oz posters isn't shared with yours but thats discussion. I agree...

If they aren't up to the sufficient standard to be paid pros, then yeah? How is this a difficult concept? It's a pro contract not a handout. Whats the standard? Tell me. So youre saying there are 35 players here on hand outs? Yeah that sounds about right actually. Just here to troll then. You live ...

Re: Melbourne Rebels... SAVED?!
Make it clear, I don't want to see Rebels(or any rugby club anywhere) fold, but the argument of whetjher players would all flee overseas? Probably if other Aussie teams are filling up rosters with perhaps journeyman players from NZ etc . If RA do let them slide they should insist other 4 teams show...

Re: Melbourne Rebels... SAVED?!
The best players get spread amongst the remaining teams. The bottom tier of players can keep trying to break through. I think most of the bottom tier of players that don't make a squad will struggle to find pro contracts elsewhere outside of the US comp. So that leaves Shute Shield. So pro players ...

Re: Melbourne Rebels... SAVED?!
You're right. Australia is no where close to Ireland in terms of Rugby at the moment. Having the extra team is killing all the teams. One must be sacrificed. Your second paragraph is just a pipe dream. If you haven't noticed Rugby is in serious trouble. Not just in Australia but also in England, Wa...

Re: Melbourne Rebels... SAVED?!
No I'm not saying amalgamation will solve all the problems. I'm saying that 5 teams is detrimental to Australian rugby at this time and the best two options are either letting the Rebels go or amalgamation with the Brumbies. That's one step towards solving the issues in Australian rugby at the mome...

Re: Melbourne Rebels... SAVED?!
It did work. Those clubs still exist now. The NRL is making tonnes of money. Saying they would have survived anyway is speculation. Youre saying amalgamating teams will solve all our problems which actually ignores the problems. No I'm not saying amalgamation will solve all the problems. I'm saying...

Re: Melbourne Rebels... SAVED?!
Amalgamation and exclusion worked for the NRL in the late 90s when they needed to consolidate and improve team quality and financial positions. Some of those joint venture teams like West's Tigers still exist now. I don't think it did work and was needed for the peace deal as much as anything. RL i...

Tell us why Foxtel deserve a second go, parked behind darts and rock climbing? You dont even need to mention Murdochs wrecking ball attacks on the game since last time. Without commenting on the virtues of Foxtel, my point was focused on rugby’s chances of cracking the Melbourne market when fans ar...

Re: Melbourne Rebels... SAVED?!
Danny Ciprani? Marquee players cost massive coin in today’s market and might not offer a good ROI. I’d suggest that they need to be very, very good at marketing if they are to succeed in a city that is so saturated with sport and games locked behind a paywall that doesn’t have AFL content. Imo, Pro...

Re: Melbourne Rebels... SAVED?!
Rebels failure to engage expats has been an issue. I don’t know what the answer is, probably a couple of marque players from NZ/Uk/SA. I don’t mean established internationals, more Tamiti Ellison x6. Danny Ciprani? Marquee players cost massive coin in today’s market and might not offer a good ROI. ...

Re: Melbourne Rebels... SAVED?!
What is idiotic is trying to salvage a rugby club in administration with $22 million in debt by moving the base to bum f*ck Victoria. It's madness. The Brumbies already have major financial woes also. Can you read? The consortium will pump $30 million into the club. In return, the club does what th...

Re: Melbourne Rebels... SAVED?!
How are the Brumbies going? I still think amalgamation was the key with the Brumbies since they no longer get crowds. Half the home games in Melbourne and half the home games in Canberra would I believe see better crowds. Four pro teams is working well for Ireland. People still peddling this? Kiwis...

Re: Melbourne Rebels... SAVED?!
Should be noted that A League isnt in rude health either. It should be its a good model but some "football" fans here prefer seeing Chelsea or Man United send out a 2nds team every summer. That said they are adding Auckland and Canberra are entering but a planned 16 team comp looks doomed due to fin...

Re: Melbourne Rebels goooooooone… soon to be Rebels Pasifika?
Yes I've lived in Melbourne for years now and I've heard of Tarneit because some of my work mates originally from India are buying places out there but I couldn't point to it on a map and I don't think I've heard of Wyndham. I just know it's out in the Boonies on the otherside of town. Needless to ...

That's good. Doing it on a shoestring makes sense. No point having a 30k stadium for 5k fans. The new 15K stadium and the surrounding facilities to be built out there look good... But not sure how Tarneit is going to go down with your, er, traditional Melbourne rugby supporter that probably wouldn'...

Re: Melbourne Rebels... SAVED?!
Wyndham Rhinos are a great club. Same with Powerhouse and Melton. I can see the benefit in the move. I’ll go to less games based on the distance but I’ll still head over. Cost sharing with Western United is win win. The Storm have a massive hold on AAMI (probably rightly so). Their changing rooms a...

Re: Waratahs v Rebels
Went last night. General standard was poor with some really good passages and tries scored. But basic set pieces executed so poorly just sets up another poor Wallaby season. Tahs have a shitload of forward injuries but still should have won last night. They dont have a playmaker in the backs, Marky ...

Are these long range predictions for the next election? The SMH are ripping into Albo for swanning around hob-nobbing with the glitterati instead of doing his job. He deserves it.
