Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
very disappointed in that province 2nd half. am i right to think that the WP hooker solomons isn't even the first choice for his school's side but fortunately the son of chippy solomons? missed some crucial lineout throws. then the flanker with the flashy boots - ramone samuels - contributed 1 good...

Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
Very dissapointing for WP. It looked like the WP coaches spent no time on defence or any defensive pattern - chaos would describe the backline defence. Pollard looked disinterested and I thought the scrumhalf also had a poor passing game. Before the tournament I said the best centres in the province...

Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
I will be at the SACS vs Wynberg game. Seems that Paul Roos have some "friends" at Supersport (like they do with the provincial selectors). They were recently televised against Grey Bloem and I have also seen them a few times this year at tournaments on TV. I dont understand why they are being telev...

Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
It was a Bishops (Diocesan College) flyhalf. I know Dylan Lleyds who played fullback for the Baby Boks last night played flyhalf for Bishops in 2010 and was known as Quade for playing a similar style.

JJ Engelbrecht is from Grey PE (as is Kolisi) so they will be adding some shortly.

Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
Interesting PB, although you might find Bishops (Diocesan College) have produced more internationals than the other schools. Us Wynberg supporters are also known to claim both Francois Louw and Robbie Fleck as they played for "The Berg" before moving to Bishops. I hate to harp on about the WP school...

Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
Dont want to take anything away from Wynberg. Their first team lead the full 80 minutes. Paarl Gim trailing by 7-10 and got a kickable penalty close to the final minute, went for the lineout and score from there to win it. Their first team beat Gim in all previous years age groups, so they sure hav...

Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
50 from the 66 from Paarl and Paul Roos. We should make our own Maties Craven Week side. Ja 18 of the 22 under 16 side are from the Boland region. I know you are proud of what the Paarl schools do but on our side it leaves a bad taste. Not one player out of Bishops/SACS/Wynberg/Rondebosch good enou...

Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
Ouch the under 16 is even worse, only Bishops of the 4 Soutie boys schoold having players in the trials. Mmmm. One positive for me is the 3 players from Jan Van Riebeck. All the afrikaans schools in Cape Town have been sliding down the rugby ranks for some time, with the exception of Jan Van Riebeck...

Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
Sorry PB. I maybe have over reacted but I very dissapointed for the Wynberg boys. Particularly the backline. They have a small pack of forwards (compared to most) yet they score many tries and are very competitive. They are unbeaten this season. Sure they have played only three top teams so far but ...

Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
The Craven week trial teams are crazy and just compounds the opinion in the Southern Suburbs that it is all rigged. I dont like to make negative individual comments about schoolboy players but as an example I have watched Paul Roos play three times this year. A few of the backline players have not i...

Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
7 of Paarl Gims 1st team players is in grade 11, two of the losies, Vermeulen & Bothma. 5 in the pavk. That is scary to think of! That one lock is massive - same height as Bekker! Makes it difficult for a small pack like Wynberg where the option of throwing to the middle is not on. Gym will be the ...

Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
Francois Pienaars boy is at Bishops, playing U14A. He made such a noise walking line, the ref had to stop the match and asked him to keep his trap. :o His son is a big fan of the Ikey Tigers, but Francois cant be seen to favour us. A lot of famous sportsman send there sons to Bishops, including a n...

Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
I hope Gym give Paul Roos a klap. Cant beleive how badly Bishops capitulated last week. Wynberg (the whole school) are off to Grey PE this weekend for the annual meet. To get into the top 20 "the Berg" have to play and beat the bigger/better schools. Good luck. We'll be visiting Wynberg in two week...

Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
Yep, Bosch, SACS and Wynberg a lot stronger this year after 2 years of good under 16 teams. Wynberg and SACS a little week at under 15 level so it may not last longer than 2 years. Bishops always strong but I think it is going to be a bad year for them, by their standards. I watched a lot of the Wil...

Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
I was happy to see paul Roos lose. Their last year under 16A's had a bad attitude with taunting etc. Some of those will be playing firsts and need to learn a few lessons about the honour of wearing the jersey and being humble etc. Bishops have had two soft fixtures in a row and would like to see the...

Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
Misbehaving parents are a problem around the country. Every year the 4 boys schools in the Southern Suburbs usually issue a letter to all parents pointing out how to behave on the side of the pitch. it usually works but there is always one or two idiots who just dont know how to behave. The constant...

Re: SA Schoolboy Rugby
Lets hope the S/Subs schools are more competitive this year and dont get "N1 fever" Whats that? :D When my son was at Wynberg his one rugby coach explained to me that when the kids travel up the N1 to play Paarl Boys/Gym or Boland Landbou they get N1 fever where they are "Psyched" out of the game a...

Re: Cricket: Protea tour to NZ
At school he broke every batting record possible (records previously held by Jaque Kallis and Dominic Telo). He was SA under 19 captain. I think he found it too easyat junior level and got used to playing everything on the front foot. At senior level you have to be able to play off the backfoot a lo...

sure, while Levi's innings was superb and very enthralling albeit on a small field he showed a glaring weakness IF, if the blackcraps are smart, they will be concentrating on bowling outside of off stump.. he seems to be a cow corner specialist... time will tell Dont worry he can hit them all aroun...
