It's much more complex than "furriners came and ruined things". We hit a boom for the guts of 2 decades, had a shit load of cheap loans, and everyone exposed themselves horribly. When it went tits up in 2008 it hit really hard. There was no construction on any significant scale for about 6-8 years....

The reason we're getting a surge of migrants from the UK is down to our own wonderful judiciary. By saying UK is not a safe country, the migrants have started coming here knowing we can't send them back there.
