Re: The Training Thread - all aspects of fitness and health
Benching this morning was the best I've had in ages. Was really focused and strong, technique was bang on. Bench: 92.5x5,5 sets, 100x3 Seated pin OHP: 60,50,40,30,20 x5 each; 55,50,40,30,20 x4 each DB incline TPD Face pulls Abs That's the heaviest I've ever done for 5x5, and I didn't struggle. I'd ...

Re: The Training Thread - all aspects of fitness and health
Just started a new cycle. Going to try doing 5x5 twice a week on both squats and bench. Different variations. Normally follow a light, medium, heavy schedule on bench and squat but have dropped a day. Squat I’m just going to do 2 sessions of 5x5. Bench I’ll add in a lighter day. Be interesting to se...

Re: Is Maro Itoje the best athlete in Rugby
Actually mog, it doesn't mean extra strength, the extra weight increases the force you can apply on things like car pulls etc. That does not equate to strength It's just not accurate. At least not according the experts in the documentary I saw. They explained exactly why they get fat and it's not b...

Re: The Training Thread - all aspects of fitness and health
Do you need direct tricep work if you do Bench Press and overhead press as part of full body split 3x a week. As a newbie? I think it depends (as always). On things like goals, how much time you’ve got in the gym, energy levels, whether you enjoy it. Without knowing more, I’d say something like 3se...

Re: The Training Thread - all aspects of fitness and health
Pretty pleased with my squat and bench last night.
Worked up to
215x1
Then did
3x5 150
Before I did 215, I did 205. The 215 felt better which was odd.
Then did 2 count paused bench
5x5 122.5.
Hopefully that all translates to some pbs soon

Re: The Training Thread - all aspects of fitness and health
Hit 160 on bench for the first time in about 18months today.
It was after my main working sets to so should be good for a bit more when I test my maxes in a couple of weeks.
Also did 5 sets of 5 paused squats on safety bar with 155.
Enjoying the pasused squats with that bar.

DLs this morning felt decent, despite carrying leg DOMS into the session. Worked up to a top set of 170x5 (about 80%). Then back off paused reps at 140. Been watching a number of videos recently to try and iron out my form. Big one for me is to pull the slack out of the bar. If I exaggerate that po...

DL question. First lift is the hardest ie getting it moving - what helps most - heavy singles or deficit to help? As an aside have a slight tear in meniscus which is a pain. No surgery recommended but hopefully can work around it. Annoying injury. Deficit work will really help. Forces you to get a ...

To my shame, I had never really taken lifting seriously even back in my rugby playing days. So I decided to just do Starting Strength about a month ago. Been watching too many videos about a decade of battlefield games over Christmas. Think it’s interesting how much shit bf5 is getting and how fondly BF1 is looked at. I used a pair of over-ear ones in the gym, but rarely for cardio type stuff where my head is bobbing around. Moved to in-ear buds a few months ago, prefer them. They work fine for exercise. Re: The Training Thread - all aspects of fitness and health
The big issue is changing the curvature of your spine under load, particularly in relative noobs who haven't got the requisite musculature and strength to support the weight. You'll see advanced lifters doing mad heavy DLs with a definite curve to their back, but they key is that all the movement c...
