WTB, I am not a medical professional but DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES go cold turkey. Go and see your GP immediately for advice. Alcohol withdrawal can be fatal. You might need a monitored detox. What strikes me about your situation is not so much the amount drunk (highish, but not at the extreme...

Some people panic easily. My young teenage son and I were walking along the beach and saw this young man in panic about his two little kids in the waves - not even big waves, and not deep water. It was so trivial that I just told my son to go and pull them out, like the father could easily have don...

In the earlier years of the internet Amazon was the most heavily advertised site. You could seldom do a search without seeing a advert for them. All the same, it took until 1997 before I made my first purchase - a book.

I'm not a heavy drinker - never have been - and still enjoy a drink regularly (not the thread for it, I know) BUT I really am starting to hate the hangovers in my late 40s. If anything makes me give up booze for good, it will be that. x( I don't really understand how you say you are not a heavy dri...

How do Boks fans feel about their team now? Are the Boks destined to again dine at the top table, or was it an accidental victory, a flash in the pan and the Boks will again flatter to deceive over the next four years? How do most Bok fans feel? I know this was a Kiwi thread, but there seems to be ...

At the height of apartheid our race was defined in the last two digits of our ID number. The first digit was for your sex - 0 for male and 1 for female. The second digit was for your racial classification. Included was “Europeans”, Indians, Cape Coloureds, Other coloureds, Griquas, etc. This is acco...

Re: Peter Snell Goooooonnnnnnne!!!!!

The way Snell ran away from the field in the 1964 Olympics 1500, I would put Snell to beat Walker at both distances. He was in full control.

In that era the athletes didn’t train so much for the final sprint the way they have since Yifter the Shifter.
Snell had great speed for those days.

He was my idol as well. I saw him run the first sub four minute mile at altitude at the Wanderers cricket field in Johannesburg. It was at lunch time during a cricket match, and they marked out a course for him on grass.
