Re: Have middle class wages stagnated?
No. They're going up, massively, and have been for 40 years. The value/purchasing power of each dollar earned has plummeted though, and wages aren't conversely mirroring that = people are in effect earning less and less each year. ? Assuming we are talking the west here and not the globe as that is...

Re: The weird obsession with super hero movies
There can be very few people in the western world who have paid less attention to films than me in the last ten years or so, but my impression is that there have been a number of non-superhero films released this year. Some of them look quite good. Are they allowed to be discussed or are my impress...

Re: The best new and returning TV series of 2018?
I liked Godless but found the shootout to be pretty poor and disjointed actually. Yeah, I agree. The woman all suddenly turned into badass shots and it seemed like there was a limitless supply of bandit cannon fodder. Yep, but then somehow the cannon fodder standing out in the open turned it around...

Re: The best new and returning TV series of 2018?
Huge binge fest over the last couple of weeks ... Godless - liked it a lot, could have been trimmed by an episode or two, and possibly had the best western shootout ever (long form, anyway, Unforgiven still probably my fav though it's over in a flash with a badass wrap-up) Dirk Gently - (first over...

Re: The weird obsession with super hero movies
I think you guys are reading too much into it. I love dumb movies. Those action flicks from the 80s and 90s are great viewing....just fcking tired of the 23rd batman movie and 14th spiderman movie. They are literally rebooting spiderman within the same decade, that's how bad it has become. Need mor...

Re: The weird obsession with super hero movies
What I find weird, is complaining about a genre of film and wondering why people go and see them. People like Superhero films, that's why they're big at the box office. If you don't like them, don't go see them. I don't like musicals on film, I generally don't go and see them, when I do (La La Land...

What are the numbers like for Black Panther? If it flops will the non-attendance be taken as a form of racism? The real question is how China are going to manage that theatrical poster. https://cdn.cnn.com/cnnnext/dam/assets/151209103057-star-wars-china-racism-poster-exlarge-169.jpg :? x( :lo...

Actually Guardians of the Galaxy is quite good too. Pretty sad it's crossed over with The Avengers. I thought the first one was really fun. I watched the second one a few weeks ago and all I remember was that they fought a stupid fat alien thing at the beginning and the tennis shoe wearing computer...

Re: The best new and returning TV series of 2018?
Too many good shows on these days, getting hard to find the time to watch them all. The last 15 years or so really is the golden age of tv. (which is ironic because it's the dark age of movies) Well, that is utter bollocks - if you don't like blockbusters (and there has always been popcorn movies) ...

Have seen plenty of genuinely good super hero blockbusters in recent times. Logan. Deadpool. That last Antipodean Thor movie. People have very short memories about blockbuster trends, though. Try to watch virtually any blockbuster action movie from the 90s, or early noughties. The scripts have none...

Someone should have thrown a dildo at her. It's tradition now. Wouldn't the tradition be to throw it at one of her underlings? (TBH, I can't remember all the dildo incidents but I didn't think Key had one thrown at him.) So someone should throw one at Robertson? Yeah, I guess he's a Joyce equivalent?

Anscombe had pace and a decent boot. Still nowhere near the ABs. As seen on the weekend, he's about 3rd/4th choice for Wales. I'd imagine had he stayed in NZ, he'd have ended up about 4th/5th choice. So not a lot of difference. Had he stayed in NZ he’d be behind; Cruden who is in France Sopoaga who...
