Re: Sayings or phrases that no longer have a modern relevanc

I think I seem to remember reading many moons ago that when motor racing removing these weights some how let the engine go faster. Nope, if you removed the distributor weights the engine would rev slower not faster due to pre-ignition (combustion triggered by compression/heat and not spark timing)

Re: Sayings or phrases that no longer have a modern relevanc

'Balls Out' Reference to removing the balance balls in an engine distributor, to allow the engine to rev faster........ :o I did not know that  and I did my time back when points and manual timing were a thing. I'm often dubious about these apparently logical/literal explanations for words...

Big respect to Craddock. He's apparently donating $100 to his local cycling club/velodrome for every day he continues the tour with that injury. Tough bastard. He's a bit of a legend in the Houston cycling community, he used to ride for North West Cycling Club (NWCC) both on the road and at the Alk...

Re: Le Tour 2018: Official Thread

Ive rode up the other side of Peyresourde and it’s tough but not a bastard. I believe the side from Luchon is a category higher, though. The road in general there is wide smooth tarmac, whereas the final climb of the day apparently has unlaced sections, which should be a much tougher test. I’ve act...

How does this square with emigrating and taking British citizenship? I'm honestly curious. I've lived in the US for 19 years and have recently taken citizenship, I feel very little pride and still strongly associate with being English. However, I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given ...

A big spanner. The spanner would be bigger than that bloke I'm not sure when the torque multiplier was invented but maybe a torque multiplier? If it was the correct timing belt and it was correctly installed and the belt tension was correctly set, then a new belt should not put additional strain on the engine. Mercedes have never made a good manual gearbox. They barely even try. They do a decent one for those who drive F1 cars. I've only driven a car with a ridiculous gearbox like that. At a rally school.
