Re: The state of the NZRU..

If the warriors get similar ratings as ABs RC games then all the more need for an expanded SR season. Warriors play about 25 gamed a season. ABs play 6 RC The NPC will not fill the void. Participation rate has nothing to do eith it. This is a tv product. Tv brings money and exposure Exposure brings ...

Re: The state of the NZRU..

Stop being obtuse, if SR ended a new comp would replace it (either a long NPC, a new Super comp, an NZ only Super comp or whatever) and the exact same money spent on players now would be spent. There's no way an NPC would generate the same income as SR. If the NZR thought so, it epuod abandon SR al...

Re: The state of the NZRU..

If SR ended this year Sky would pay the exact same amount of money to an NPC style competition and players would mostly get paid the same[/b]. Also, no one is saying that Sky only pays for the ABs, but the ABs are the focus, the underneath content could come in any format. No it would not. Then why...

Re: The state of the NZRU..

Ok let's explain the business of Super Rugby. Without SR there won't be professional rugby in either NZ or Aus. The NPC won't generate enough for elite players to want to stay. People point to Test rugby as the premium product. But it wouldn't be that without SR. No tv network would pay a premium o...

Re: The state of the NZRU..

Agreed. We already have the NRL for that, and I get bored mid season, and most years my team (the hype train Warriors) are out of the running by mid May. When franchise rugby finishes I then start looking forward to provincial rugby. That's the attitude that's killing rugby. The reason the NRL/AFL ...

The short SR season is not fit for purpose. Even the NFL has a longer season. My suggestion. Is increase NZ teams to 7 and have 20 round season. NPC can go semi pro. boring. Agreed. I don't think the high price would be an issue for the travelling Lions fans as travel agents would package it with their deals. They'd just offset it with savings elsewhere.

I do feel for us locals though.

Re: Wallabies 2024 (2023 never happened)

Wallabies need a reliable kicker this year more than ever. 2-3 super games have been lost due to established kickers leaving 3-6+ points wide. Crazy that still no one is standing out from any of them. It would certainly end the discussion on which fly half to pick. Harry McLaughlin Phullips for the...
