Matt Kearney's Rochester is a song about his dad's life. It was written from his dad's point of view. It always makes me cry and think of my dad, who I still miss. I actually couldn't listen to the song for 4 years without balling.

I didn't have a cellphone til I graduated university and had a job. I remember half now get phone cards in order to call home on the landline because we did have a long distance plan as we were college kids and it was the late 1900s (1998).
