Re: quitting the bottle today
It was today 19 years ago that I finally acknowledged that I am an alcoholic, listened to my wife, and contacted the local branch of DanShuKai (断酒会; a totally secular form of AA). Today marks the start of my sobriety, the second best decision of my life.
The rest, as they say, is history.

Someone clapped that Looney Tune Matt Gaetz as he nominated Donald Trump  The guy is so bizarre looking, like he has a rubber face. A giant skull. Also that adopted son thing, f**king weird stuff. One silver lining for McCarthy is that once the number of votes goes over 16, Matt Gaetz will pro...

Re: quitting the bottle today
It's January - so the papers are full of articles about stopping drinking. This is one of the better ones. Like the author I am still not a fan of zero alcohol versions of alcoholic drinks. In my case it's because I lost all enjoyment of alcoholic drinks in the latter stages of my drinking (I was d...

Can't drink more than 3 pints anymore since the colon surgery. Am i fishing for sympathy???? Yes Perhaps this thread is not the right place but to me 3 pints in one sitting sounds like a lot. When I lived in the UK I drank pints but in NZ they tend to be served in much smaller measures, probably ar...

Re: quitting the bottle today
I don’t drink much these days after I spent my youth binge drinking. I would be lucky to have anymore than 5-10 beers in an average month. I had 3 pints at an end of year work do, went home at 4pm and was completely incapable of parenting, just lay around on the floor groaning. So have decided to t...

As always, be worried about what will follow. Imagine Trump’s politics and morals but executed with a modicum of competence and the pretence of class. Also, worry about the anger of those duped. I believe that a significant slice of the population are locked in Trump supporters. One question might ...

I'm struggling with Pele. His highlights reel (that I have seen) are mainly him nailing goals & many of them would not even feature as memorable in todays game. Maradona & Messi are / were players over the ball. They started their runs from close to halfway before either scoring or setting up someo...

One of Drumpf's biggest supporters, who helped rile up the insurrectionists on 6 January last year, was quoted yesterday as saying "Trump is dishonest, disloyal, incompetent, and crude". What is amazing is that it took him until now to realise it.

I heard that the MLB and NFL both have a centralised video review centre, and when a ref calls for a review, totally neutral parties check and give their recommendation. Maybe one of our American posters can confirm this.

So, where does this rank among rugby's biggest chokes? Pre-tournament you could barely get England at better than $1.50 to win the whole thing, often less. I heard many people say that England's second XV would win the tournament at a canter. The coaches said as much in the Wear The Rose documentar...
