Here, can you not buy ibuprofen over the counter here? Tried picking some up in various supermarkets over the last while, and they only have paracetamol based painkillers.
Pharmacy only?

I knew that codeine stuff was prescription only (neurofen plus), but didn't realise big standard ibuprofen was somewhat restricted. Could buy a pack for like a pound in England.
Arse, need to restock for when I inevitably injure myself again.

Nuerofen Plus isn't prescription, you just need to say how terrible your period pain is or whatever and they have to give it to you.

No it’s fair enough, Ibuprofen has side effects. So does paracetamol nasty drug if you take too much.

TBF, I did that once, but it was when I thought I'd broken my toe after a teammate landed on my foot during lineout training. Stud straight through the base knuckle. Agony.
X-ray showed no damage, just confirmed how soft I was.

Ques were much longer when I left, short on reception staff I heard.

Next time you have someone coming over from the US, get them to bring you a big bottle of Advil PM - contains Ibuprofen and a sleep aid. If you feel shite, take them before bed and they knock you out real good :smug:

Did that before years ago. Brought back a bottle each of paracetamol and ibuprofen tablets. Like 500 each. Lasted for years and eventually got thrown out when way after their best by.
Only a few dollars each. Mad how expensive they are here.

Are inert chemicals ever past their "best by" ?

I tend to stock up on the old diclofenac when in Spain.

Think medicine can lose a bit of efficacy but didn't think it ever went off, as such. Best before dates are just when the companies guarantee efficacy?

I've heard on the grapevine that a lot of civil service entities (to use a loose idea) like to hire workers on a temporary basis to avoid the pain in the hole that is the ordinary hiring process. Apparently there's a perception that the Public Appointments Service requirements are sometimes a bit wooly.

It may be as simple as just wanting an excuse to hire people directly and avoid their rigamarole.

For the public health doctors this is their moment. No longer are they the poor relations of the medical community now they are actually important.

For the scientists good chance to improve their profile, become a recognised name - good career move unless you expose yourself as an idiot...

They've dug themselves into a position. Tbf, public health officials are meant to look at worst case scenarios. That's their job but with no formal manual on how to deal with this they're constantly erring on the side of caution. It's the government's job to balance them out.
