Irish trade figures show what the real trade diversion effect of Brexit is: Imports to Ireland from GB being replaced rapidly by imports from NI, Netherlands and France. The landbridge has become a landwall.

Something the UK government was totally unprepared for.

Well, unfortunately yes. It is pretty shit but unavoidable when dealing with a bunch of incompetent populists.

This is taking on way too many resources that should be redirected to deal with the consequences of the pandemic, not a bunch of nationalist idiots.
It's all good, peace in our time has just been correctly paralleled with silly griping.

I will acknowledge the NI situation is a very tricky situation for Brexit to address, but it was somewhat known about in advance, and at no point pre or post referendum has anyone in favour of Brexit ever even tried to sensibly address it. The closest they got to sensibly addressing it was the protocol they now acknowledge they signed in bad faith to claim at the time they'd done it when they never had any intent of delivering what they'd agreed. Although them do seem to consider that they just want everything to work to their advantage when negotiating from a weaker position is realistic, and thus start the problems in trying to nail down some practical details

The next closest they've got to addressing it is to say Brexit means Brexit. The next closest again really does take us down into the realms of the offensively stupid

Anyone who believes that an independent arbitrator is the end of all this is living in cloud cuckoo land.

The Brits will keep adding these red lines going until they are allowed access to single market without any red tape. Just like prior to last January .

Ireland will always be the leverage for the Brits. NI protocol is the 1st step.

Remember the leaked strategy when May took over " We'll have our cake and eat it"

I doubt that strategy has been binned.

That's a very good description of why we are where we are.

Tony Connolly is by far the best English language journalist reporting on the EU and very rarely, if ever, gets it wrong due to the strength of his sources.

Unless Boris blinks, trade war it is, and we, Ireland, will be enforcing a hard border across our island, the cause of which, British perfidy, will not be forgotten.

May sent her diplomats across Europe with the line that Ireland, a little country, shouldn't be allowed to define the future UK/EU relationship. That was noted by all the other "little countries" at the time, and won't be forgotten.

As much as I realise that it’s not part of Ireland and its unique status is to protect both communities there. There should be no oversight of British law from the ECJ.

No questions answered. You lie just like your government. But the board sees you for what you are

PS you must be incredibly thick or a real snowflake to see that as bigotry

That's a very good description of why we are where we are.

Tony Connolly is by far the best English language journalist reporting on the EU and very rarely, if ever, gets it wrong due to the strength of his sources.

Unless Boris blinks, trade war it is, and we, Ireland, will be enforcing a hard border across our island, the cause of which, British perfidy, will not be forgotten.

The EU breaking of the precious GFA won’t be forgiven either.
You do realise that about half the adult population of NI hold Irish passports, and are therefore EU citizens ?

As much as I realise that it’s not part of Ireland and its unique status is to protect both communities there. There should be no oversight of British law from the ECJ.
Shame nobody told David Frost, Boris Johnson, or both Houses of Parliament before they negotiated and signed a treaty that gave precisely that.

Yeah British negotiating tactics 101

Step 1. Exploit and create division
Step 2. Get the hell out of Dodge
Step 3. Try to steal the cutlery on the way out
Step 4. Deny that getting out of dodge was ever what was negotiated

Case studies : India, Pakistan, Iran, half of Africa

Thanks to UK intransigence. Doubt the bombs will be going off in dublin but rather Belfast and Guildford

Casual threats from a bigot. Nothing new.
Idiotic reply from a moron who refuses to answer questions and then pretends to have done to have done so when the thread has moved along. Nothing new

All questions answered.

You post obviously revolting bigoted posts.

And another example of your bigotry on this page. As I said the mask slipped with you and everyone can see exactly what you are.

No questions answered. You lie just like your government. But the board sees you for what you are

Yeah referring to groups of people as “sun human” only upsets snowflakes. It’s understandable that it wouldn’t bother you,

You are as senile and thick as your government is untrustworthy and duplicitous.

Over and above that you are a snowflake
