Loads of merchandising out there already as well.

I liked it tbh, but the ending was shit.
Yeah the ending sucked. Kinda went down the toilet in the last episode. Oh well.

Who watches dubbed anything?
I can't watched dubbed stuff at all, I can't handle the sound not matching the movement of the mouth etc.
The same - II guess I grew up watching French cinema so my brain is wired to read and watch at the same time

I can't even watch it when its not dubbed but the same language and the sound is fractionally off to the lip movement. Hope that makes sense, used to happen on ITV quite a lot in the UK. Doesn't seem to be as common now

The problem I heard was that the subtitling of Squid Game was gibberish.

Just goes to show... threads about TV shows are pretty useless as everyone has a different opinion on what is good and what is rubbish... I didn't like The Wire but loved The Sopranos... I loved Mare of Easttown and couldn't stand Seinfeld...

I don't mind it as long as the voices could conceivably match the actors. I can ignore the lip sync being off cause I don't like sub-titles much either (as you inevitably read them faster than the actors say the dialogue and it distracts from the shot composition and visual presentation).

I have a theory that foreign language stuff gets a quality bump in terms of how good we think a show is. Half those Scandi crime dramas were average and Money Heist is complete f**king shit, but people talk about those shows as being prestige TV.
Yep Ive often thought the same. Its hard to recognise if the dialogue is clunky or just plain shit. Also pisses me off when the translation clearly doesn't match the dialogue. That being said I just can't do dubbing it's ridiculous.

Agreed re Money Heist. Mrs made me sit through shitloads of it. Although that bird was smoking hot. Tokyo I think?

The dubbing on those German pornos as a teenager must have really put you off your vinegar strokes.

Succession is great, about 4 episodes in.
All of the sniveling incompetent failsons are horrible human beings, but it's immensely gratifying to see them humiliated. Especially by Roy.

The dialogue is brilliant.

Loads of merchandising out there already as well.

I liked it tbh, but the ending was shit.
It was good for a while but that kind of deconstructionist stuff gets a bit thin after too long. It would have worked much better as a movie. You could see from a long way out the direction of travel for the characters and some of it was padding. Difficult to stick the landing.

I did like the visuals of the actual squid game at the end but that was it.

Cousin Greg is my favorite. He’s there as a foil at the start but he’s just as devious and Machiavellian while simultaneously clueless. The scene about him picking a lawyer is brilliant.

Ah now, It’s not BR even if it borrows from the setup.

The series lacks a bit of depth but it grew on me I have to admit . Amanda’s a good character and it looks all set up for her to be running things in season 2. Hope that’s the end of Frank , he’s pretty lame and the character doesn’t suit Aidan Gillen at all

**Kin Spoiler*** I quite "liked" Eamon and thought they'd need him for season 2 - part that confused me was what happened to the 2 lads picking him up from the airport - that cant be a good move ; but yeah Aidan Gillen's character was all over the shop and Amanda was convincing

It's overrated but good.

Some of the characters are a touch too shallow. Logan and Kendall are the best developed.

Roman in particular is given no depth, but we're forced to hang around him so much like he has something to him beyond his repulsiveness.

Kendall at least has something approaching self awareness/morality, underneath all of the shit.

The show has potential, it’s good but a few little things really let it down. Some of the casting is woeful. The actor playing Michael Kinsella looks like he’d be more at home in the library than as a member of a drugs crime family who just got out of the clink. Honestly it was like he got lost on his way to a romcom set.

Roman is a great character and not just because Kieran Culkin absolutely nails the part of the hideously privileged New York rich kid (he would know). There are loads of subtle hints - his eating disorder, his mummy issues with Gerry, his lack of self esteem when Shiv battered him in the last episode

Still working through it, but I did think he looked exactly like McCauley Culkin haha.
He's great at playing a total slimeball, it's fun, but so far in season 1 we haven't been given too much of a look at his humanity.

Kendall so far has glimpses of self awareness and knowing his own inadequacy, despite plowing ahead regardless. That's obviously deliberate but I need to find something to hook me in more with Roman because right now I just want terrible things to happen to him.

I really struggle to spend time in the company of people so loathsome and alien, but I guess that's the point.
It's overrated but good.

Some of the characters are a touch too shallow. Logan and Kendall are the best developed.
It is really good, but you're actually right the more I watch it.
Roman in particular is given no depth, but we're forced to hang around him so much like he has something to him beyond his repulsiveness.

Kendall at least has something approaching self awareness/morality, underneath all of the shit.
Roman is a great character and not just because Kieran Culkin absolutely nails the part of the hideously privileged New York rich kid (he would know). There are loads of subtle hints - his eating disorder, his mummy issues with Gerry, his lack of self esteem when Shiv battered him in the last episode
Kieran Culkin and the scenes with the exploding rocket in Japan were comedy gold

He's very, very well-acted, but the character is effectively "he's a díck because people were a bit mean." The whole "trickster" archetype is superbly played, just a bit naff.

I'm going to go ahead and say it.....3 episodes in to new season and succession has not been up to its usual high standards so far.....it feels like its building up to kicking off but .......
