Value For Money Rugby Players

Post by Zico »

Players who are worth it or deliver more than expected.

Scott Fardy delivered way more than expected during his time at Leinster as a recent example.

Doug Howlett and Shaun Payne for Munster, seeing as they stuck around for long after their playing careers and made serious in-roads with commercial stuff.

I'd agree with Tipoki too.

Also, you'd have to think Rob Henderson was a forerunner to those guys who never reach the top heights but are constant and do amazing things for their club week-in week-out.

From what I remember he was often treated as a "plodder" despite being extremely good for Munster.

Edit: Yeah, pretty much. His final years for Munster wasn't seeing him get much respect at higher levels.

Gareth Steenson was recently honoured for his contributions at Exeter, I'm told.

Nice idea for a thread

Filo TiaTia at Ospreys I'd suggest
Ray Ofisa and Jarrod Butler at Connacht
Nick Williams at Ulster and Cardiff
Dan Baugh at Cardiff
David Holwell at Leinster

James Slipper for the Brumbies.

Given a second chance after being unceremoniously booted from the Reds for coke and other personal issues. Moved to the Brumbies, behind the Wallabies incumbent #1.

Since then he's unseated Sio both at the Brumbies and Wallabies, and has developed his game to the point where he is possibly our most consistently good player in that jersey in a decade.

Him leaving the Reds (read: Thorn booting him) really stuck in my craw. The guy was done for coke but was battling some personal demons (his mum was dying from cancer). Thorn had an opportunity to help him but he was kicked to the curb because he probably didn't love Jesus enough.

I'm glad he's at the Brumbies and he's playing well.

There is a lot to like about the work that Thorn has done, he's turned the Reds into winners. But he his happy clapping his way or the highway method results in a lot of collateral damage.

Trevor Brennan in Toulouse is probably another example

A bit of a WTF moment for Leinster fans, and I don't think anyone expected him to be anything other than a bit-part sideshow. But he was a key player for them for years. Didn't end well mind
